2 Timothy 3:4 - Where Have You Placed Your Love?

2 Timothy 3:1-4 - 1-This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2-For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3-Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  4-Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Does this text describe what our world now is or what it is becoming? If we would take a minute to inventory what we see all around us today by way of news media, our communities, social networks, society, our churches, our schools, our homes, our families and our relationships, our work places, etc.,  we can truly say that the time that is described in this text is the time in which we now live.

In Matthew 22:37-39 Jesus gives us this command- Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

1 John 2:15 declares - Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.

When we put ourselves on the throne of our life, our relationships with other people are not the only thing affected. Above all, we affect our relationship with God. We become separated from Him, our relationship with Him is broken.

In placing your love for the world and all it's pleasures, you have decided to place God behind you instead of in front of you. You are being lead by you and not by God. Many are traveling on this road, viewing evil and wickedness as entertainment. They have not had one thought of  where will spend eternity. Why? they are too busy, eating, drinking and being merry!  Oh, what a dangerous road to travel. Eternal separation from God and destruction is the end of this road!

Matthew 7:13-14  “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Where have you placed your love this morning?

Why should your love not be for the world? Our answer is found in 1 John 1:15-17 which clearly declares that --For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17- And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

The world and all it's pleasures are temporary.

Have you ever seen anyone invest their life's savings into a company that they know will surely go bankrupt? No one would attempt to sail in a sinking boat full of holes, would they? Would you place your treasures in a place where you know moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal?

Matthew 6:19-20 19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;…

Purpose in your heart that you will do the will of God. If You Do the Will of the Father, You Will Live Forever with Him.

John says, "But he who does the will of God abides for ever." The opposite of loving the world is not only loving the Father, but also doing the will of the Father .  Jesus said in John 14:15 -  "If you love me you will keep my commandments". 1 John 5:3 says "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments." So loving the Father in verse 15 and doing the will of God in verse 17 are not really separate things.

Do you find yourself constantly yielding to the indulges and appetites of your flesh?That is not the will of God for you! Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship.

Are you committed today to forsake the foolishness of this world? Are you willing with God's help to broke off from all bad company and influences? Or, are you still wanting to compromise the Holy standards of God's Word for the forbidden pleasures of this world?

Where have you placed your love on today? Are you among those described in vs#2-4 of this text? 2-For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3-Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  4-Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Proverbs 14:12 warns - "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

Hebrews 9:27 - It is appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment?

There are two cries that is being heard in the world today. The cry of the wise and the cry of the fool. The cries for more of the Word of God and the cry of more pleasure. Which is your cry?

To whose voice will you give heed? Where have you placed your love? The voice that you heed to will answer this question!

Proverbs 9:18 - Remember- all who serve and live for Pleasure end up "in the depths of hell."

WHERE HAVE YOU PLACED YOUR LOVE THIS MORNING? IN GOD OR IN THE LUST AND PLEASURES OF THIS WORLD?

Matthew 6:21 - For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Earthly treasures or heavenly treasures? Which have you chosen?

WHERE HAVE YOU PLACED YOUR LOVE ON TODAY? HEAVEN OR HELL?

Today is the day to choose your LOVER and your destination.  God or the world?  Heaven or hell? Which will it be for you?

I love you all with the love of Christ.
