Proverbs 1:8 Children, Obey Your Parents For This Is The Will Of God For You

Proverbs 1:8-9 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
Ephesians 6:1 - Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
Colossians 3:20 - Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.

Throughout the bible, we find one scripture after another that commands, warns, advises or urges children to obey their parents.

The relationship between parents and children is very important in the eyes of God.

We are living in a time where obedience to parents has been thrown out the window. Disrespect to parents is seen at a level that it has never been before. Children are telling parents what to do. In some instances the parents are acting like the children and the children are acting like the parents. Sometimes it appears that the parent/child role has changed.

Believe it or not, this is not the will of God. Children are commanded to obey their parents in God's Word. Not only their parents, but they are also commanded to obey God. Children are commanded to obey their parents because it is the right thing to do says the Lord.

Proverbs 15:5 declares - Only a fool despises a parent’s[a] discipline; whoever learns from correction is wise.

Children are a part of God's plan in His kingdom also. Jesus Himself declares in Matthew 19:14 - but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Parents, you have a responsibility to train up your children in a way that they should go for scripture declares in Proverbs 22:6-Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Does this means your children will not stray? No, it does not mean that. If the word of God is in them, they may stray, but they will eventually come back. You plant the seed (word of God) in their hearts and God will do the rest!

We as parents are commanded to do just that in Deuteronomy 6:6-9 - These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.

We must train our children God's way. God has set the standards in His Word for rearing children. It all starts with the knowledge of God. Proverbs 9;10-Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.

Children, thank God for having parents who love you enough to not only tell you what is right and show you the way, but parents who not only love God, but love you enough to discipline you if needed. Scripture declares that even God chastens those whom he loves. Hebrews 12:6 For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child."

Godly parents will insist on obedience and respect from their children. Parents we are to teach them without provoking them to wrath. Follow God's standards for discipline and you will have done what the Lord has commanded you to do. The results are not up to you, it is up to God. Just do your part as parents in showing them the way that God has outlined for their lives in His Word.

It is very important that our children learn to obey their parents because that same behavior and respect will overflow into their child's relationship with God.

Parents, if you have no respect for God, yourself or anyone else, do not expect your children to have respect for you. Children are not listening too much to what comes out of our mouth, they are watching our actions. Is our actions lining up with our speaking? What are we teaching our children when the 2 do not line up?

Children, obey your parents! Why? God commands it! It is right in His eyes, therefore you pleases God when you obey your parents. It is God's will for you that you obey your parents.

God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for an obedient heart.

I love you all with the love of Christ.
