Psalm 136:1 - 136 O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
The Psalmist in this text commands us on today, from our heart, to give thanks unto the Lord our God, maker and creator of heaven and earth. The God who declares that the earth is the Lord and the fullness thereof and all they that dwell therein. Our God, the God of the Universe, is who we are being commanded to give thanks to always and in all things.
Thanksgiving to God should not be limited to certain occasions or certain days, but everyday in everything.
Many people think of thanksgiving day as the day to give thanks to God, but we as believers know that giving God thanks is everyday and in everything for us.
The apostle Paul exhorts us in Ephesians 5:20: "Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord
1 Thessalonians 5:18- In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
As we can see here from these 2 passages of scripture, thanks to God is not only in good nor bad times, but in all times, whether they be good or bad. Why? God tells us why in Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Regardless of where we may find ourselves on today, God has a plan and it is working for our good, therefore we MUST give Him thanks.
God is Sovereign. He has every hurt, pain and situation in the palm of His hands. He searched us, therefore, He knows us!
Psalm 34:15 – The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry. God knows all about our situations.
Because God is God, He deserves thanks from the fruit of our lips.
We give thanks to God for He is merciful! His mercy endures forever towards us.
The Prophet Jeremiah declares these words about God's mercy. Let's listen to Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
This mercy of God endures for ever. The mercy of God is new every morning! Oh, how beautiful this is saints! God's mercy never departs from us for His Word declares that His mercy endures forever. This means that God will never leave us nor forsake us. He is faithful in mercy.
Indeed our God is faithful, therefore, we must continue to daily give Him thanks in all things for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you and I.
I love you all with the love of Christ.
