1 Samuel 30:6 - Feeling Discouraged? Encourage Yourself In The Lord

1 Samuel 30:6 - And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

What is it that have you troubled on this morning? What is it in life that has come against you and have caused you great distress?

David was on the run for his life from King Saul. He choose to set up camp with his enemies, the Philistines in Ziklag. David, along with all his men had attempted to go to war with his enemies against his own people, Israel, but the Philistines did not trust David and sent him back to Ziklag, the city they had given him when he arrived there.

To their surprise as they return to Ziklag, not being prepared for what they would find, David and his men arrived to a burned down city. Israel's other enemies, the Amalekites came and took their wives, children, all their possessions and burned the village to the ground, leaving nothing. Discouragement beyond measure had overtaken David and all of his men. David and his men not only found the city burned, their wives, children and all their possessions were gone. What a horrible sight to return home to!

In great grief, pain and anger, David men blamed David for what had happened and they turned on David to the point of even wanting to stone him to death for what had happened.

Here is how the grief of these men were described in 1 Samuel 30:4 - Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep. In other words, they sobbed with pain and grief so much until there was o more tears to cry.

It comes a time in all of our lives where we have to trust God to do what only God can do. We were not created to be self sufficient, but God dependent!

David encouraging himself in the Lord means he is no longer relying on David, but on God. We can only operate within an of ourselves to a certain degree and then we need help. Yes, David was a great shepherd boy, a great and mighty warrior who killed Goliath, a mighty man after God's own heart, but he too needed God's help!

Trouble on every hand? Financial issues? Wayward children? Unsaved loved ones? Employment issues? Marital issues? Health Issues? There is strength in the Word of God for you! Do as David did, seek the Lord while He may be found for He will strengthen your heart!

Feeling Discouraged? Encourage Yourself In The Lord! Yes, He is the only one that give you the strength needed to fight life's battles. God and God alone!

God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for scripture declares this concerning our God on this morning in  Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

I love you all with the love of Christ!
