Genesis 50:20 But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.
We all know the story of Joseph. He was thrown into a pit and then sold into slavery by his brothers because of jealousy. They even went as far as lying to their father when they returned home by telling him that Joseph had been killed by an animal.
A jealous heart can wreak a lot of destruction in a person life as well as those around them.
The brothers that Joseph loved, grew up with, lived with, ate with, cried with, slept with, shared the same parents with had hidden in their hearts, jealousy for their own brother. Some would ask how could this be. Jealousy that lead them to envy and hate their own brother to the point of wanting to kill him, but eventually selling him into slavery.
In other words, jealousy had lead Joseph's brothers to betray him. Their betrayal of their brother showed the condition of their hearts. Their hearts were depraved.
Jealous is seen throughout the bible. Cain and Abel, Joseph and His brothers, Jesus and Judas. It is also seen throughout the world today from friends, coworkers, family members, neighbors, and more sad than anything else is jealousy and betrayal among church brothers and sisters. The hugs and kisses of betrayal of those who confess to love you and Christ with a dirty heart. What can be more painful than that?
If jealousy and betrayal has taken root in your heart and has caused you to betray your brother or sister, I pray that you will cry out to God with these words that are found in Psalm 51:10- Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Many good works and many good people are destroyed because of someone else's jealousy.
Jealousy is a poisonous venom. Something that one has to rid themselves of through the power of God's Word and prayer. If you are living with jealousy in your heart for one reason or another, I urge you to seek God on today to help deliver you from it.
Man looks on the outward appearance, but God sees the root of our hearts. He sees and knows everything that is down in there. We can not fool God and we can only fool man for a little while and the truth will be revealed.
What is in us will manifest itself! Look at Joseph's brother! What was really in their hearts was revealed in the way they allowed jealousy and betrayal to cause them to harm their own brother.
The good news on today is if you, like Joseph had been betrayed by a loved one, friend, church brother or sister, God will not only expose them, but He will use it for your good and His glory.
Let's listen to Joseph story when he confront his brothers about the intent of their jealous heart and God's purpose in allowing them to do what they did.
Genesis 45:1-5 Joseph could stand it no longer. There were many people in the room, and he said to his attendants, “Out, all of you!” So he was alone with his brothers when he told them who he was. 2 Then he broke down and wept. He wept so loudly the Egyptians could hear him, and word of it quickly carried to Pharaoh’s palace.
3 “I am Joseph!” he said to his brothers. “Is my father still alive?” But his brothers were speechless! They were stunned to realize that Joseph was standing there in front of them. 4 “Please, come closer,” he said to them. So they came closer. And he said again, “I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into slavery in Egypt.
KEY VERSE: # 5 But don’t be upset, and don’t be angry with yourselves for selling me to this place. It was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives.
The same brothers that allowed Jealous to cause them to betray their brother is the same brother that God had preserved to save their own lives. There was a famine in the land and there was no food to eat. God had elevated Joseph to 2nd in command in Pharaoh's palace.
Jealous indeed is poisonous, but it was used by God to promote Joseph to the place where God had already preordained for him to be.
Can you look back over you life and view some of the evil that was done to you out of jealousy and see where God had used it for your good? Indeed I can! I have seen the heart of jealousy and betrayal over and over again.
But, the greatest view I have had thus far in my life is seeing the hands of God over and over again working all the jealousy and evil that befall me for my good.
What Judas meant for evil in betraying Jesus worked for our good. Jesus shed blood at calvary brought about forgivness of our past, present and future sins. It brought us into a right relationship with God. Because of it, we are the heritage of the Lord! God's own possession.
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for taking away your heart of stone and giving you a heart of flesh.
I love you all with the love of Christ!
