John 13:37-38 – Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial of Him 3 Times

John 13:37-38 – Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” 38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!

THOUGHT TO PONDER: When Jesus asked His disciples what the word was out on the street around town as to who He really was, they responded with these words from Matthew 16:13-16 – 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.

When God asked Peter who does he say He is, Peter responds here in verse # 15-16 “But what about you?” he asked Peter? “Who do you say I am?”16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Here we see Peter’s confession of faith in who Jesus really was, the Son of the Living God and a few chapters later, we see Peter’s denial of Jesus.

Matthew 26:69-75 – Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. “You also were with Jesus of Galilee,” she said. 70 But he denied it before them all. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said. 71 Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 He denied it again, with an oath: “I don’t know the man!” 73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.” 74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Three times Peter denies knowing Jesus. Peter was with Jesus at the beginning of His earthly minstry, at the healing of his mother in law, on the sea of Galilee, the feeding of the multitude, walking on water, on the mount of transfiguration, seeing Jesus with Moses and Elijah and Yet, Peter denied Jesus.

What all have you seen the Lord do in your life and yet you still deny him?

What forces are at work in your life that is causing you to do the same by denying Jesus and the power of His Holy Spirit? What is it?

Believe it or not, many are still denying Jesus today!!! HUMMMM!!!!

How? By disassociation from our allegiance to Christ in the presence of unbelievers or critics of the Gospel. Some deny Him when they refuse to take advantage of the opportunity that God gives us in witnessing to others. We do Not have to defend the Gospel because God’s Word can defend itself, but we must witness to it and not be ashamed of spreading the Good News, which we confess to believe in.

Another way we deny Christ is by saying one thing and doing another. Not lining up our lives according to Godly principles and standards. Not practicing what we preach!

We must stand firm to that which we know to be true. THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST!

It is this type of behavior that gives unbelievers the privilege and honor to call you a “hypocrite” because of your denial to live out that which you claim to be! A CHRISTIAN!

Has Jesus predicted your denial of Him before the foundation of the world? Are you now living out His prediction in your life? He is the Sovereign God, you know! He sees and knows all things!!!

God bless and do tell the Lord thank you!

I love you all with the love of Christ.
