Luke 2:41-52 - The 12 Year Old Boy "JESUS" In The Temple

Luke 1:41-52 The Boy Jesus At The Temple!

In this text, Luke now transitions from the baby Jesus to the boy Jesus who is now 12 years of age. In this text, Jesus is separated from Mary and Joseph after the passover festival and they go looking for Him and not being able to find Him for 3 days, they found Him in the temple at Jerusalem teaching all the religious teachers, who were in awe of the understanding and wisdom that was spoken out of His mouth. In verse #52 of This text, we are told that Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man.

Deuteronomy 16:16-Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the Lord empty:

Luke 2:41-52 Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year to the Passover Feast. 42 And when He was twelve years [old], they went up, as was their custom. 43 And when the Feast was ended, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem. Now His parents did not know this, 44 But, supposing Him to be in the caravan, they traveled on a day’s journey; and [then] they sought Him [diligently, looking up and down for Him] among their kinsfolk and acquaintances.

45 And when they failed to find Him, they went back to Jerusalem, looking for Him [up and down] all the way. 46 After three days they found Him [came upon Him] in the [a][court of the] temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished and overwhelmed with bewildered wonder at His intelligence and understanding and His replies.

48 And when they [Joseph and Mary] saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Child, why have You treated us like this? Here Your father and I have been anxiously looking for You [distressed and tormented]. 49 And He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me [b]to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business? 50 But they did not comprehend what He was saying to them. 51 And He went down with them and came to Nazareth and was [habitually] obedient to them; and his mother kept and closely and persistently guarded all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom (in broad and full understanding) and in stature and years, and in favor with God and man.

The example of Jesus as a 12 year old in the temple, teaching the scriptures is a good read for us and our children. Proverbs 22:6 - Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

Deuteronomy 6:4-7 - Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: 5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

2Peter 3:18a- But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

God bless and do tell the Lord thank you.

I love you all with the love of Christ.
