1 Corinthians 13:1-3 Let The Love Of God Rule In Your Hearts On Today

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;[a] but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

In this text we are given a clear picture of what true love looks like. Paul's argument here is that there is a more excellent way in which we can live this christian life, which is living in the spirit of "love". Letting the fruit of the spirit called "love" fill our hearts and minds in our actions towards one another.

Paul compares having the gift of tongues without "love", as a fruit of the Spirit as a clanging symbol.  In other words, having the gift and not operating in it through the Holy Spirit is like not having it all. If motivated by the spirit, we can love, if motivated by personal effort or self, we are wasting our time because this kind of love benefits no one but self and that is not the kind of love that God calls us to as believers.

Love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that is developed in us daily as we continue to grow in the spirit of Christ through the Word of God.

The love for one another that God calls us to on today is  "selfless love". Love that is unconditional. Love that never ask "what is in it for me" but rather "what can I do to make life better for someone else".

An example of selfless love would be the love between a parent and a child. Yes, some children  put their  parent through an awful  lot of heartache and pain, but there is nothing that parent would not do to help that child because of their unconditional "love" for his or her child.

The greatest example of selfless "Love" is God's "AGAPE" love  that was displayed for all to see that day on a hill called Calvary as an atonement for the sins of man while we were yet sinners. Scripture declares  in John 15:13 -Greater love has no man than this:to lay down one's life for one's friends.

James 214-17 - What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? 15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? 17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

We are commanded in 1 Corinthians 16:14- Let all that you do be done in love.

Jesus Himself declares in John 15:12- This is my commandment: love each other in the same way I have loved you.

The love that we are called to on today is found in vs# 4-7 of this text. Let's listen: 4-Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Love given any other way than that which God commands us to give it is described as  "clanging noise" that benefits no one. It does not matter which gift you may operate in today.  You may have the gift of prophecy and understand all of God's secret plans and posses all knowledge, you may even have the gift of faith that could move mountains, but if you have not selfless, unconditional love, your labor is in vain.

What is your motive on today? Self? Or, God, then others? Where do you stand on today in God's command to love ye one another?

Too many saints are talking one thing and are showing evidence of something else.

True "love" is directed to building other and not self.

Let the "Love" of God rule and reign in your heart on today.

God bless and do tell the Lord thank you if His love rules and reigns in your heart on today.

I love you all.
