2 Kings 4:26 - Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? Is it well with thy husband? Is it well with the child? And she answered, it is well.
"It is well"! Is this your reply on today? It was the reply of a Shunammite woman who's one and only young son had just died.
The Prophet Elisha was passing through Shunem when he met a rich and influential women that lived there with her husband. Having identified Elisha as a "man of God" she invited him to eat a meal at her house every time he would come through her village.
One day this woman said to her husband "I perceive that this is an holy man of God", which passes by here often. She convinced her husband to add a room on to their house so that the prophet would have a place to say when he is in town. She went as far as furnishing the room with a table, stool and a candlestick for lighting. She wanted to make sure that he was able to have the bare necessities he needed for prayer and meditation with God.
Having shown kindness to the man of God, Elisha, he wanted to do something in return for her. Elisha told his servant Gehazi to call the Shunammite woman and he inquire of her as to what the prophet could do for her for all her kindness she had shown towards him. The woman stated that she lives among her people and is in need of nothing.
Having asked Gehazi had he observed anything which the woman may want or desires and he tells the Prophet Elisha that the woman does not have a child.
Having been told by his servant Gehazi that the woman was childless, the Prophet Elisha spoke these profound words to her in vs #16-about this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt have a son and the woman said "man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid".
The woman became pregnant, and the next year about that same time she gave birth to a son, just as the Prophet Elisha had told her.
One day while reaping with his father, the young man complained of a headache and his father told one of his servants to "take the boy to his mother". After having been in his mother's arms for a little while, the child died.
This woman called her husband and said in vs#22- “Please send me one of the servants and a donkey so I can go to the man of God quickly and return. #23-“Why go to him today her husband replied, seeing it is not the new moon or the sabbath. Is all well her husband asked she replied "all is well"!
All is well! In other words, “Everything is all right,” she said.
This was the faith of that Shunammite woman that tragic day that her son had died.
What situation are you dealing with on today? Can you say "all is well?" This particular day fear, tragedy, sorrow and death struck the house and this woman of God was able to respond with these faith filled words: "All is well"!
"All is well" has met and carried so many saints through the worst of circumstances.
Dead situation where there seems to be no hope, "All is well". Wayward children? "All is well". unsaved loved ones, "All is well". Money bills than money, "All is well". Sickness in your body, "All is well" for our God is "ABLE"!
A few verses to an old familiar hymn goes like this: when peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, "it is well", "it is well with my soul".
After all I have been through, I can still say "it iis well with my soul" because God is still in control and all things WILL work together for our good according to God's Word. Who's report are you going to believe.
If you read the entire 4th chapter, you will see that the Prophet Elisah (man of God) was able, under the power of God's spirit, to bring this child back to life and gave him back to his mother. GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY! "It is well"!
The declaration of faith on today: "It is well"! Are these the words that you are declaring today in your storm?
In the midst of life's storm can you say "It is well"!? This is the place where God is trying to get our faith to on today. Trust God and God alone, He is the only who is able to see you through.
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for "it is well with my soul".
I love you all.
