1 Timothy 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith, giving their minds to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons.
If you notice in this text, Paul specifically says that the "Spirit" clearly states that some will abandon the faith. These are not Paul's words, but God's Words spoken through His Holy Spirit to Paul.
This scripture is part of a Pastoral letter that Paul had written to Timothy and not a particular church. Timothy and Titus, Paul's sons in the Gospel, are the only 2 personal letters that Paul had written to individuals and not the Church. Most of Paul's letters were written to the churches.
Paul wrote this letter to Timothy who was a Pastor at the church at Ephesus to encourage him to remain faithful to God and His people, to his call and ministry in the perilous times of false teachings and deception that was upon them.
How Timothy would do this is by making a commitment to God's truth that is found in God's Word, regardless of what was happening around Him.
As Christians, are you willing to remain faithful to the Gospel truth in spite of what is happening around you?
Paul instructs Timothy in vs#2 of this text with these profound and powerful word. Let's listen- Preach the Word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke and encourage your people with good teaching.
Throughout the bible we can find many passages of scripture that speaks of how people in these last and evil days will turn away from the faith of Christ and the pure worship of God and turn to the evil of this world.
Are we there yet? Do we see it happening in our country and around the world? There is a resounding "YES" answer to this question.
Many have abandoned the Gospel truth to follow after satan's lies and deceptive thoughts and ways. Oh, the price to pay for one's soul! What is your's worth?
Has satan crept in unaware into your mind with lies of deception? Has he convinced you that God's Word is a lie and he alone knows the truth and is the truth? He did it to Eve when He told her in Genesis 3:4 - "You will not certainly die," knowing that God had already said "if you eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you will surely die."
Beware of false teaching. Deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons. Satan was a false teacher in the garden of Eden and he is still giving our false doctrine today to all who would believe and receive his lies.
If satan deceived Eve, we are not exempt! Therefore we must be very careful and wise in our decision making. Ephesians 5:15-16 -So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16- Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17- Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.
Departing from the faith is nothing new. It happens today. It happened in the church at Ephesus where Timothy was when Paul wrote to him and it happened in the history of Israel with everyone from kings on down.
There are and always will be people who have convinced themselves that their way of life is the right way of life, but God's Word beg to differ on today. Scripture declares in Proverbs 16:25 - There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. Death meaning eternal separation from God.
On a daily basis, we encounter people who have abandon's God's truth to follow satan's lies. We know them. Some of them are our family members, friends, spouses, children, coworkers, neighbors and yes some are even our church brothers and sisters.
The reason for the falling away is a "heart" issue. Hebrews 3:12 - Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.
Have you abandon God's truth to follow satan's lies? If so, God has a remedy for that in 1 John 1:9-If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to firgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for His Word that leads us into His truth and righteousness in Christ Jesus.
I love you all.
