Colossians 3:9-10 -Do not lie to one another, for you have stripped off the old (unregenerate) self with its evil practices, 10 - And have clothed yourselves with the new [spiritual self], which is [ever in the process of being] renewed and remolded into [fuller and more perfect[a]knowledge upon] knowledge after the image (the likeness) of Him Who created it.
In this text, the Apostle Paul is dealing with putting off the "old man" and putting on the "new man."
The Apostle Paul declares that 2 Corinthians 5:17 "any one who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone, a new life has begun. In other words, if you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are no longer who you used to be. We are daily being transformed into the image of Christ.
The things we used to do, the places we used to go, the desires we used to have are beginning to fall off and daily we beginning to desire more of what God wants for our life.
This transformation is taking place daily by the washing of our minds with the Word of God. The new man in Christ must embrace God's truth so that we may be able to willfully transition out of the old us into the new us in Christ Jesus. Death to the old and resurrection to the new!
Colossians 3:9-10 - If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
To embrace the new you with truth, we must daily bring our flesh under the subjection of God's truth that is found in His bible. Embracing God's truth changes our view and causes us to focus on what is right in the eyes of God and not self.
The call today is for Christians to put away the sins of our old life and put on the new life that we have been given by faith through our communion with Christ. We are being called to put off the old ways of lies, fornication, uncleanness, filthy language, slander/blasphemy, evil, covetousness, idolatry, etc. Those things that are identifiable with the old man that we once were.
The Apostle Paul exhorts us not lie to one another. A lie hides the truth and deceives others. On the other hand, truth is the opposite. It unites us in our communication and truth allows us to trust one another.
Embrace the new man who has been renewed by the Gospel truth. The man who is daily being renewed in knowledge after the image of Him (God) that created Him.
Regardless of the consequences or opposition, the truth of God's word must be embraced by us who claim to have been accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in our lives by faith..
In the world we now live, it is easy to find those who claim to have embraced the truth, but yet are still living like the rest of the world. If you do not believe me, try going to some of these ball games, the movies, cookouts, workplaces, family functions, etc.and you will see what I am talking about.
The way of the world is not the way of the Christian. We operate according to God's standard and not the standards of the world.
We must embrace the new person we are becoming with God's truth! How? God has given us some help in His Word in Romans 12:2 - Do not copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then, you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
There is a great need that comes with urgency on today. The need for us as Christians to take off the old man and all it's pleasures and desires and embrace the truth of God's Word with our heart, soul mind and body, so that we may be effective, not only in living as the new creation in Christ Jesus, but also in preaching and teaching the Gospel truth in hopes to win others for Christ.
If we truly live as one who has been redeemed from sin by Jesus Christ, we will recognize and embrace other Christians for who they are. Paul says there is no difference in us. God does not seek Jews nor Gentiles when He looks at us. He sees us as brothers and sisters in Christ who share a common life.and a common Savior, Jesus.
If you have yet to do so, start today by embracing the new you with truth. God commands that you do. Your journey of spiritual growth in the newness of Christ will take on wings and fly.
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for giving you a mind to serve Him and Him alone.
Embrace the new you with "Truth"!
I love you all.
