Matthew 25:1-13 -Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
This text is known as the parable of the 10 virgins. 5 wise ones and 5 foolish ones. Which are you?
This text reference the 2nd coming of Christ. Will you be ready?
10 virgins knew to prepare for the Bridegroom' banquet. 10 knew He was coming. 5 wise prepared themselves by filling their lamps with oil.
They anticipated having to wait in the dark, therefore, they took extra oil, but the 5 foolish virgins took their lamps with no oil. They never considered the thought that their timing was not God's timing and they were not sure of the coming time of the bridegroom. They came to church on Sundays and felt like they did their part and that was enough. Never giving a thought to a personal relationship with Christ. Just being satisfied in coming to church.
The 5 foolish virgins were caught off guard. When the hour had come, that is when they decided to seek a personal relationship with Christ, it was too late for them.
Going to purchase oil (seeking salvation) at the hour when Christ will appear will be all too late for you.
When the foolish set out to purchase oil for their lamps, they returned to find out it was too late for them for the banquet had started and the door was shut. In other words, The opportunity for salvation had come and it was too late for them.
As the story goes, when the bridegroom appeared, the foolish virgins were caught off guard and unprepared. Seeking a refuge for their souls, but it was too late.
When the foolish virgins made their plea to Christ to let them in, Here is how Jesus responded in vs#12-"Verily I say unto you, I know you not."
Will this be the response that you hear if you are not prepared to to meet Christ? He is coming back!
Partially prepared, is unprepared.
To know of Jesus and to know Jesus is two different things.
God is looking for people who want a personal relationship with Him. 5 prepared to one day meet Him and 5 did not. The ones that did not have their oil had a form of godliness but lacked the power. They blended in every Sunday morning, but when the bridegroom came, the true identifies of all were revealed.
Are you preparing to meet Christ? Or, do you believe that you have a little more time to live life as you please without any thought of preparing to one day meet Christ?
Has the enemy, satan, our adversary, deceived you into believing that there is no God? Has he deceived you into believing that the 2nd coming of Christ is a myth?
I am here to warn you on today that now is the time to seek the Lord while He may be found. Now is the time to start preparing for your eternal destination.
We are warned in this text to keep watch. Keep our lamps burning for we know not the day or the hour when Christ will return. When? We do not know, but we do know that He is coming back!
When Jesus returns, there will be a great separation of the wise and the foolish. Where will you stand?
Now is the time to fill your lamp with oil and keep a reserve of oil so that your lamp can keep burning until He comes.
Psalm 119:105-Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. A lamp symbolizes the Word of God, the principles of God, the Gospel truth which lights our pathway as we travel through life.
I want to leave you with these words of wisdom that is found in Proverbs 6:20-23- My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: 21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. 22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
If you obey the commands of God's Word that is found in His bible, when the Bridegroom returns to get His bride at His 2nd coming, you will be counted among the wise and not the foolish.
Where do you stand in your relationship with Christ on today? Yes, I know where you stand with the world, but where do you stand with Christ?
Are you among the wise or the foolish? Will you be ready when he return? As the saints of old would say, "there will be a great getting up morning"!
Will you be ready?
God bless and I love you all.
