Proverbs 22:6 says to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
The command to train up a child in the way he or she should go implies that that he or she has a tendency to do what is wrong when left alone.
We live in a society where parents are faced with all kinds of challenges and adversities. Parents being limited in the discipline of their children, , children being moved out of their homes for one reason or another, the government moving the 10 commandments and prayer out of our public school, constant threats of child abductions, suicide bombers, terrorist, school shootings, peer pressure, robberies, gang violence and on and on.
In the midst of all the chaos that is going on in the world around us, God still commands us to train up a child in the way they should go.
Training a child in the way they should go does not mean that a child should not choose his or her own way of life after they become an adult. It means you as a parent start at the cradle. There are lots of children and baby bible books to assist you in training them early.
This pattern of behavior as to how a child should conduct oneself has to start from birth. The standards for life and living has to be established immediately with the child.
God has already laid out in His Word the way they should go. Teach it to them parents while they are small! Do not wait until the child is an adult and living a wayward life to try to instruct them on God's way of life for them.
The command is to train up a child in the way he or she should not, not the way in which they want to go.
If you truly want to bless your child, train them up in the way God says they should be trained.
God has set out standards in his Word for life and living. A manual that guarantees the “comeback” to God’s way of life if trained according to God’s standards. The only other manual is what the world offers, which a fake manual that never gives it’s end results of destruction. God’s Word declares that they will not depart from it. His Word will always be brought back to remembrance to them, even if they stray.
We as parents must take the time to talk to our children about God’s Word. We are to teach our children Godly standards and principles, we are to set the example of righteous living before them, teaching them to Honor God and his absolute authority in their lives, teach them to recognize the need for God and his Word in their daily living. We are to also discuss the scriptures with them, ask them questions and show them how to find them in scripture by searching the text with them.
Children are not only looking for direction, but they need it from their parents. We need to train our children at an early age for a future life of discipline as an adult.
What does God commands us to teach our children? Great, I am glad you ask. Let's listen to Deuteronomy 6:5-9 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
God's Word clearly states that parents are to be the passer on of truth and right living that is described in God's Word to their children.
They are to be trained by instructions of God's Word. Training is a process that will allow you and your children to look back when they are old and appreciate the time you took to train them God way, because of the fruit of that labor that they now live out from the seed God allowed you to plant in their lives through His Word at an early age.
Parents, if you truly love you children like you claim you do, you will obey God's command in training them up in the way they should go.
Will they depart? Possibly! But, they will come back for the seed would have already been planted. We who have been trained up by our parents in the ways of God's Word is proof of that. We too strayed, but guess what? We came back! They will too!
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for divine direction in raising our children to one day repeat the cycle of raising their children God's way as we have raised them.
Bless your child/children by training them God's Way.
I love you all.
