Matthew 16:26 -For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
What is your soul worth? This is the question that Jesus has put before every man, woman, boy and girl on today that must be answered.
The Soul! It is the most valuable possession you will ever have in life. What value have you placed on yours?
Why is the soul so valuable? The soul in all of us is made in the image of God. Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. The Hebrew word for soul is nephesh, and this word is translated soul.
Our physical bodies are only earthly tents that will one day perish when we die, but our souls live on forever. We are spiritual beings living in a fleshly body. The real you and I are "spiritual beings" who were created in God's image. Our soul will live forever.
God does not possess a physical body for scripture declares in John 4:24-God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."
Our Soul is the most value possession that we will ever possess because everything else will one day pass away. 1 john 2:17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. In other words, everything in this world is temporary and quickly passing away.
Jesus reveals in this text that it is possible for man to loose his or her soul. When we lose something we no longer have it; it is gone.
How can we loose our souls? When our pursuit and goal in life is anything or anyone other than God. If we should die apart from a personal relationship with God, our souls will be lost eternally. Read Luke 16:19-31 for confirmation.
Matthew 16:24-25 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 25"For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
Denying self requires us to give up anything that we would want or seek that would hinder us from doing the will of God in our lives.
If you have been lead to believe that your life is your own and you do not belong to God who created you, you are sadly mistaken. Psalm 100:3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
A person who considers his or her life to be his or her own, to do whatever he or she pleases, to live according to their own will and spend their entire life accomplishing his or her own purposes, rather than denying self and putting God first, will lose his or her life in the end. They will be eternally separated from God.
Anyone who denies his or herself first and puts God first by giving their life in service and sacrifice to God, Jesus stated above that this person will save his or her life by gaining eternal life.
Putting self second and putting God first will save your life!
Coming into a personal relationship with Christ starts with self denial.
What is your soul worth? That part of you that will live forever.
Where will your soul find it's resting place? With God or apart from God? Which will it be for you?
As you go about your day on today, keep this question at the forefront of your mind. What is my soul worth? Where will it spend eternity?
Jesus came to save the lost! What value have you placed on your soul?
I beg, urge and plea with you on today that you would be more concerned about your soul than anything else in life, for your soul is your most valuable possession.
If you view the worth of your soul from God's view and not your own, you will better understand the true value of your soul and why it is important that you do not gain the world and loose it.
What is your soul worth? Hummm! Marinate on this today.
God bless and I love you all.
