1 Corinthians 15:33 - Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good character."
Who are you keeping company with?
The Apostle Paul is writing this letter to Christians. Yes he is writing to "church folks."
This same warning that Paul gave to the church at Corinth is being sent forth to every believer today.
The wrong company can defeat every attempt, every effort your put forth to do good. Wrong company not only includes people, but internet sites, media, radio, etc.
The opposite applies also. Good company guards against developing and practicing bad habits, behaviors and attitudes that are contrary to God's Word.
Many Christians today are hindered in their spiritual walk with the Lord because of the company they keep and the activities of those ungodly friends and relationships they choose to connect themselves to.
Attitudes, opinions, perspective and views from those who know God and those who do not know God are different. When this relationship happens, it distorts our view and influence our decisions.
When you call yourself a Christian, you can not surrender yourself to a lifestyle of willful sin. People who think wrong, operate in wrong behavior. Behavior that is against the pattern that is set forth in God's Word for those who claim to be His people.
We are exhorted in Hebrews 12:1b-let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up.
All that sin does is entangle us, trips us up, drag us down and eventually takes everything in it's path.
Sin never tells you how far it will take you, but it will take you are as far as you are willing to let it.
What we must accept is the fact that bad company corrupts good behavior. Stop trying to fit in with unbelievers, stop compromising your faith just to be in their inner circle.
As Christians, we are exhorted to heed the warning of the Apostle Paul in not being equally yoked together with unbelievers. Come out from among them.
I am not saying that you can not witness to comfort, assist or help when there is a need. What I am saying is that they should not be your inner circle of friends.
Look at Jesus, He witnessed, ministered and served wherever the needs was, saved or unsaved, but His circle of friends were His "Disciples'. Those who were like minded.
Say what you may, believe what you may, but I am here to tell you, "bad company corrupts good behavior"! Remember Sampson and Delilah?
Proverbs 18:24-A man of too many friends comes to ruin. But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Believe it or not, every friendship influences us in some ways. Friendship with the world can and will corrupt our character and spiritual life.
James 4:4-know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
The world (unsaved, ungodly) standards are opposed to the standards that are laid out in in God's Word for those who confess Christ. Why lock and tie with one who believes the opposite of what you claim to believe?
If you continue to yoke yourself together with unbelievers, satan will take advantage of this and you may end up at a place you do not want to be and find yourself trying to figure out how you got there when you arrive there.
Matthew 24:11- Many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Wolves in sheep clothing.
The adversary is very cunning, deceitful and strong. Being ignorant of his devices will make us suspectible to his tricks and deception. Therefore, be watchful, alert and always on guard.
Pray and ask God for a spirit of discernment so that you will be able to determine truth from untruth and that you will be able to see the enemy for who he is.
Put on the whole armor of God so that you may be able to stand in these last and evil day in which we now live. The enemy goes to and fro seeking whom he may devour. Do not let it be you through fake and ungodly relationships.
Satan has many devices on how he can deceive us. 1 John 2:16-For all that is in the world--the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not from the Father but from the world.
Be aware! Bad company does corrupt good behavior. "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
If you don not stand for something, you will fall for anything!
Stand firm on the word of God on today, regardless of the consequences.
Stand courageously in your faith without wavering. Pray without ceasing and continue to study and apply the Word of God in life so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil that are guaranteed to come our way.
Who are you keeping company?
God bless you all.
