John 12:44- 46 In a loud voice Jesus said:Everyone who has faith in me also has faith in the one who sent me. 45 And everyone who has seen me has seen the one who sent me. 46 I am the light that has come into the world. No one who has faith in me will stay in the dark.
Throughout the bible we see where Jesus not only declares that He and the Father are one, but He also boldly proclaim that those who have “faith” in Him also has “faith” in the Father, the one who sent Him.
In this text, Jesus reminds his hearers and us that He came into the world as a "Light" so that no one who believes in Him should stay in darkness because He Himself is “Light”.
In saying that He is the "LIGHT" Jesus is proclaiming to be the long-awaited Messiah that was promised to come. He was saying that He who had been waited upon with expectation, God in the flesh, has now come to save His people. To take them out of darkness and bring them into His marvelous “Light.”
Jesus declares that He is the “Light” of the world. For this “Light” came to save all that would believe by faith that He was sent by the Father to be a “Light” for them.
John 8:12-Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life."
John 1:4-5 Everything that was created received its life from Him, and His life gave light to everyone. 5 The light keeps shining in the dark and darkness has never put it out.
In the days that Jesus walked the earth over 2k years ago, many received the “Light” and like many today, they are rejecting the “Light” of Christ.
Jesus says this concerning those who refuse to accept Him as the “Light” and yet choose to remain in darkness.
Let’s listen to Jesus speaks concerning those who choose darkness over “Light” in John 3:19-"This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil.
Jesus clearly states that the rejection of “Light” originates out of an evil heart that loves darkness and evil doings.
Because of the sins of our first parents, Adam and Eve, God, out of His love for His creative people that was going to come, God already had a plan before the foundation of the world to put on flesh and come down to earth in the flesh, in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ to save His people, knowing that some would receive His “Light” and others would reject Him.
2Peter 3:9-It is the Lords will that none should perish but that all would come to repentance.
Jesus reminds us in this text of His reason for putting on flesh and dwelling among humanity as the “Light” of the world is that no one who believes in Him should stay in darkness and die separated from Him.
If God is our only source of spiritual life, then darkness represents death, which is the opposite of life.
The truth that remains even unto this day is “it is impossible for “Light” and darkness to co-exist.”
John 1:5-The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Darkness represents falsehood, deceitfulness, divisiveness, evil and everything that is not of God.
Darkness is the realm in which satan operates with craftiness, deceit and lies, but the good news that scripture declares concerning darkness and God’s knowledge of it in Psalm 139:12- even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.
1 John 1:5-6 This then is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, yet walk in darkness, we lie and the truth is not in us.
How could we know when we are in the “Light”? In vs#46 Jesus tell us how we will know when we are in the “Light” for He says “you are in the “Light” when you believe. Faith is the only way to the "Light" and life everlasting.
When we acknowledge and reverence God for who He is by faith, when we turn to His “Light” and away from darkness and begin to walk (live a life) in obedience to the truth of His “Light” the Holy Spirit comes and dwells richly in us.
When we do as Jesus commands concerning our knowledge of being in the “Light” by faith alone, Jesus says “no one who has faith in Him will stay in darkness.”
How are you living your life? In darkness or in the truth of God’s “Light”?
2 Corinthians 5:10- For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.
Without Christ we live our lives in spiritually darkness.
GET YOUR EYES OFF OF MAN AND PUT IT ON GOD FOR IN THE END WHAT GOD SAYS IS ALL THAT WILL MATTER!
Jesus came to drive out or push away darkness so that we may be able to live in the “Light” of His life and love.
The call to all those that are living apart from God in darkness is to "enter into the Light" by faith through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
