Matthew 2:16-18- When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men,[i] he was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had learned from the wise men.[j] 17 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken through the prophet Jeremiah:
18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they are no more.”
The "RAGE" of King Herod was made known after he himself, the "great deceiver" realized that he was "tricked" by the wise men when they did not return with his request for information concerning Jesus' whereabout.
Oh, the reaction of a deceiver when he or she has been deceived themself!
In his "fury", King Herod commanded that every male child 2 years of age and under in and around Bethlehem had to be slaughtered. Herod was "King" but He was threatened by a baby who came as King of Kings. Therefore, those babies had to be slaughtered so He could remain on his earthly throne, so he thought.
Herod was appointed by man, but Jesus was anointed and sent by God. As a matter of fact, Jesus is God in the flesh. Herod knew that this baby that was born in Bethlehem, was indeed the “King of the Jews” but he did not want to accept it. That is why he was so enraged. He knew that the fulfillment of old testament prophecy concerning the "Savior" of the world had come to fruition when Jesus was born. No doubt it!
The truth was known in the king's heart, but he refused to accept it. His actions proved it! Instead of accepting the Lord Jesus Christ, He rejected Him by putting himself in the place of God. He deceived himself into believing that he had all power in Jerusalem. Oh, what a dangerous place to allow satan to take you in your heart and mind.
Herod's ruthless act in killing these children and the pain of those mothers who had to endure this horror had already been prophesied by the Prophet Jeremiah in vs#31 of chapter 15. The wailing and lament of those who lost their children due to this ruthless and selfish act of a jealous, rageful king was indeed unbearable with the thought of knowing they would never get to hold their babies again.
If you are one who operate in deceit and rage, be very careful for scripture declares in Galatians 6:7-Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
The "Rage" of a ruthless king!
Pray and ask God to never let you get to this place in life where jealousy leads you to murdering others for selfgain. Not necessarily with a sword, but even with our mouths.
The "Rage" of a deceitful, selfish, ruthless king.
Herod died but his spirit lives on in the world today through those who refuse to accept the Gospel truth. Those who are offended by the mention of Jesus' name. Those who have allowed freedom of speech to ban prayer from our schools and colleges, those who have said in their hearts "there is no God".
The celebration of the birth of Jesus is being suppress today by commercialism and materialism. Herod's spirit is still alive and well in the world today.
One day you will look for Herod and all his followers and they shall be no more.
I say to you on today, people of God, do not be afraid to let your "Light" so shine, do not be afraid to worship and celebrate our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, continue to open your mouth and proclaim the Gospel truth for as God's Word declares in Exodus 14:13-this enemy you see today, you will never see again.
When the final trumphet sounds, the spirit of Herod will be dead once and for all.
Jesus, King of Kings and Lord of Lords will have the final say so on all matters.
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for sending His Son Jesus Christ into the world to die for our sins.
