Matthew 16:13-17 - When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
After having arrived in the coast of Caesarea Philippii with His disciples, Jesus asked them, "Who do people say I am?"
The question that Jesus proposed to his disciples that is being sent around the world today is the most important question that "MUST" be answered by today by every man, woman, boy and girl.Who do you say Jesus is?
The answer to this question is very important. How we answer will make the difference in this life and the next life to come. The answer to this question will help us determine our eternal destination.
Who Is Jesus to you? I have heard many describe Him as "the Good Man" upstairs by the younger generation, The Lord, Teacher, Master, Savior, God, Messiah, Healer, Keeper, Redeemer and on and on.
When Jesus proposed this question toPeter, his response to Jesus was that some on the streets said He was John the Baptist, Elias, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
When Jesus made the question more personal by asking "who do you say I am", Peter profound answered what was revealed to Him by the Holy Spirit and not of his own knowledge. He said to Jesus, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
In response to Peter's answer, Jesus replies with these words in vs#17- “God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn’t get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am.
In other words, Jesus was saying that no man can answer this question unless the Spirit of God Himself reveals it to you.
John the Baptist describes Jesus this way in John 1:29-John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Some of the religious leaders of Jesus' day did not know who he was. Let's listen to how a few of them described Him.
John 10:20-Many of them said, "He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?"
Mark 3:22And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
Sad to say, but many today still do not know who Jesus is. They are unable to answer this question because they are unable to get pass the how's, why's, when's and where's of God. Therefore, they find it difficult or not of importance to know who Jesus is.
There were many in the bible that got the question right as to "who is Jesus" to them. Let's listen:
The Shepherds knew who Jesus was. They set out to seek Him after hearing these angelic words from the angels of heaven concerning Jesus. Luke 2:11- Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:15-When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about."
Simeon got it right after having met Jesus in the temple on the day of His dedication back to God in Luke 2:25-35.
Blind Bartimaeus knew who Jesus was. He called Him "Master" in Mark 10:51.
The bible delcares that even the demons of Jesus' day knew who He was and them trembled. Let's listen to Mark 5:7 - He shouted, “Jesus, Son of God in heaven, what do you want with me? Promise me in God’s name that you won’t torture me!”
Who do you say Jesus is? Is He the Son of the Living God to you?
Regardless of what we may think, say, accept or reject concerning Jesus and who He is, the bible declares in Romans 14:11-It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.'"
Philippians 2:10-11 “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
We can acknowledge Jesus now orat judgment. The choice is ours. The good news on today is the fact that you and I "WILL" acknowledge Him.God's word is true and it "WILL" come to pass.
Numbers 23:19-God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?
Once again, Jesus ask, "Who do you say He is?"
Jesus is the only way to God the Father and the only highway that leads to heaven, according to John 14:6.
The separation gap between man and God has been bridged back together by Jesus Christ alone.
If you plan on meeting God one day and spending eternity in Heaven with Him, you must accept God's atoning work through Christ Jesus at Calvary as the price that was paid to redeemed you and I from our sinful state so that we may be reconcile back to God the Father. There is no other way to heaven!!! Jesus is it!
Jesus again ask, "Who Do you say He is?
God bless and I love you all.
