Romans 8:13- For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Temptations of the flesh daily comes to us all. We have a choice as to submit or reject.
God has already given us a way of escape from temptation. Let's listen to 1 Corinthians 10:13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
Living to please your flesh? The flesh is a empty well that can never be filled. You can daily fill it and every day with everything it craves and it will need to be filled again tomorrow and every tomorrow after it. The sinful nature can never be satisfied. It daily cries out “FEED ME”!
Romans 7:18 - For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. Apart from the Holy Spirit, we all are doomed. We can not fight the battle of our sinful nature in our own strength. We need God’s help to do it.
Jesus says in John 15:5- I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. Spiritually disconnected from God? You will not be able to daily battle your sinful nature. It may look like you are winning the battle for a day or 2, but you will be back at please the flesh without even realizing it.
Scripture declares this concerning those that have truly been transformed, regenerated or redeemed in Galatians 5:24 - Now those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Salvation brings about deliverance of slavery to sin. Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Well, if you do, slavery to sin should not be your daily practice. Let's listen to Romans 6:6 - For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
When we get saved, we must "commit" to going to war against our flesh because it still wants to rule.
What are the deeds of the body that we are command to daily put to death? Colossian 3:5-10 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[a] 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
Romans 6:12-13 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
Sinful deeds breath daily and their lifeline to you must be cut off! Why we must cut if off? Glad you asked, let's listen to Romans 8:7- The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
To daily rid ourselves of pleasing the flesh, the Holy Spirit, the Word of God and prayer must be our tools in "rejecting" every desire of the flesh to go against the Word of God.
Romans 10:17-Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.
The only way to stay alive spiritually is to choose to live according to the spirit and not the sinful nature. It is the Holy Spirit that enables us to put to death the sinful deeds of the flesh. God and His word is one.
Galatians 5:16-Let me explain further. Live your life as your spiritual nature directs you. Then you will never follow through on what your corrupt nature wants.
Either we kill (put to death) the sinful desires of the body with God's help or the sinful deeds of our flesh will spiritually kill us.
Daily crucifying the flesh is not an option for the Christian. Kill the flesh or it will kill you now and in eternity.
Think what you may, do what you please, say what you want, but heaven and hell are real places and the choices you make in this life will determine whether your live or die spiritually.
Any doubters who do not believe hell is a real place, read Luke 16:19-31 for confirmation.
To live according to the flesh or the spirit is a choice.
