John 5:1-9 Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals.2 Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda[a] and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. [b]5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7 “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
In this text we find a paralyzed man who had been lying at the pool of Bethesda for 38 long years. He was not alone, for there were many others there with disabilities also.
Having encountered Jesus on the Sabbath day, Jesus says to the man "do you want to get well?" His reply was "i have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. Every time I have tried, someone else gets down in the water before me.
This man at the pool is blaming others for his inability to get into the water to receive his healing.
Who are you blaming this morning? Who has caused you hardship and trouble? Who has caused you to fail and not succeed?
The blame game is nothing new. It started with our first parents, Adam and Eve. Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent.
What has God required of you and on today you find yourself with one excuse after another as to why you have yet to do it? What is it?
This man encountered Jesus that day and a change in his life took place. He went from being paralyzed to rising up, taking up his bed and walking, all at the command of Jesus.
There is no way we can encounter Jesus and remain the same. It is impossible!
It does not matter what your condition, what you excuse, where you have been or who you have been with, nor how long you have been wherever you have been. When you encounter Jesus, there WILL be a change.
Like this paralytic, do you see your need for change? Do you see your need for Jesus? Or, do you still see a need for the "blame game"?
If you are willing, Jesus is able to change your condition.
Do you really want to be healed of your sinful condition? Have you accepted the fact that a change MUST take place in your life? Are you tired of laying around in blame and shame? Jesus can heal you.
Jesus question to the sin sick soul on today is "do you want to be healed"? If you do, get up, take up your bed and walk. Leave the past behind and move forward with Christ who has the power to make you well.
Do you really want to be healed? Well, if you do, it is time to end the blame game.
To you who stand in need of healing on today, Jesus is saying, “Do you really want to be healed? Do you want to get well?” If the answer is yes, then Jesus can perform a miracle in your life and you will never be the same.
It is time to end the blame game! Take responsibility and move forward with Christ who can heal you.
Let today be the day that you declare "I will no longer blame anyone for my condition".
God bless you all and I love you.
