Psalm 27:1 - The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27 is a message of hope to all who would believe. A message to God's people in time of trouble and despair.
David knew and experienced one troubled situation after another. David knew trouble firsthand! He was rejected by his own father and brother who considered him to be a "no body" in their eyes, but "someone" great in the eyes of God. He was hated by King Saul and spent years on the run for his life, his own son tried to kill him and overthrown him from his throne, etc.
In the midst of continual trouble from one enemy after another, David still was able to find hope for He said in this text that " The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"
David's hope was not in David and what he was able to do. His hope was in God. He knew that God was everything he needed in every situation.
After experiencing and still going through many battles from many different enemies, here is how David describes his God of hope with confidence.
First David describes God as his "Light". 1 John 1:5b-God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. As "Light", God leads and guide our footsteps and He delivers us from the deep darkness of many helpless and hopeless situations. God is the Father of lights. We can not see God, but He can see us.
Second, David described God as his "Salvation". The God who delivers his soul from hell and damnation. Isaiah describes Him as His "Salvation" whom He too will trust and not fear. Isaiah 12:2 "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the LORD GOD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation."
Third, David describes God as his "Strength". As our strength, He is a "High Tower", A "Shelter", a "Mighty Fortress" in the time of trouble. As our "Strength", He is able to deliver us from defeat of the enemy with a guaranteed success. No need to fear!
Proverbs 18:10- The name of the LORD is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.
Psalm 46:1- God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Are you in despair on today? Does your situation seems hopeless? Has the enemy of your mind cause you to believe that there is no hope for you?
If the battles of life that rages in your mind and in your health has cause you to be in despair on today, there is good new for you.
God offers you hope, confidence and assurance of who He is and what He is able to do. He declares to you on today that He is your light, your salvation and your strength. Whatever you stand in need of, God has it!
Feeling hopeless and in despair? Call on the lord! We are exhorted to do just that in Psalm 18:6 -In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.
Psalm 37:5 - Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.
There is hope in the midst of despair. God is the only true "Deliverer"! Everything and everyone else is temporary, God is eternal. Will you trust Him on today? David did and God delivered Him. He can do the same for you and I.
Deliverance is not always out of the situation, but deliverance can take place in our minds by way of peace in the midst of life's stormy situations, knowing that God is right there with us. Remember the 3 Hebrew boys in fiery furance? God did not take them out, but He stepped in the fire with them.
God changes not! Scripture declares that He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
God is our hope in the midst of despair! Keep your eyes on God. Psalm 16:8 - I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
God bless and I love you all.
