Matthew 25:14-16 14 Then one of the Twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests 15 and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
Oh, the sting of betrayal!
Judas was also one of the 12 disciples that was personally chosen by Jesus.
Jesus knew who Judas was and He knew he would be the one to betray Him for he said to them all in John 6:70- "I have chosen you 12 and one of you is a devil"?
Satan entered Judas' heart and he went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.
Knowing the intentions of his heart, Judas partakes in the last supper with Jesus and the other 11 disciples.
After having predicted his betrayal before the 12 by saying "‘Very truly I tell you, one of you is going to betray me.’ Peter ask "Lord who is it"? Jesus replies "
Jesus answered, ‘It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.’ Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, ‘What you are about to do, do quickly.
This text causes us to examine ourselves by asking ourselves, "what price have I sold Jesus for?"
Judas sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver, The price of a slave.
Judas also sold his own life for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus said these words concerning Judas whom he knew was going to betray him.
Let's listen to Jesus spoken words concerning Judas in Matthew 26:24-For the Son of Man must die, as the Scriptures declared long ago. But how terrible it will be for the one who betrays him. It would be far better for that man if he had never been born!"
What price have you sold Jesus for?
