Deuteronomy 30:19-"This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live"
Every area of our lives consist of choices. We make them all day long, and sometimes without even realizing it.
In this text, the children of Israel are at the end of their 40 years in the wilderness and is about to enter into the land of promise. But, before entering, there is a one last challenge for them and that is the choice of life or death.
The choice of life or death presented before the children of Israel is being presented to the world today. God's command is "choose life" and your will live. Choose life and live under God's blessings or choose death and be cursed.
Even though God has given us a choice, His command and desire for us is to "choose life and live". The ultimate decision is up to us. God always instructs us in the right way in which we should live and choose, but it is always our choices that determines our ultimate consequences and destiny.
The choice to live in eternity with God or die and live eternally separated from Him is a daily, 24 hours a day choice that has to be made by you alone. This is a personal command and a personal choice that is being given to each one of us. Mama and daddy, husband, children, friends, neighbors, coworkers, friends, counselors, pastor and no one else can make this decision for you.
We must personally make the choice to "choose" to serve the Lord our God or the choice to serve the world and our flesh. This is the choice that is before all of us on today. We have a decision to make!
In choosing God, you will live and in choosing the curse you will die. This death referenced here is a spiritual death. An eternal separation from God.
As Christians we were chosen by God to be recipients of God's unchanging grace. This grace does not make our responsibility of making the right choices void.
What is your choice on today? God says He has called heaven and earth as a witness against you on today that He has set before you life and death, blessings or cursing and that His command is for you to choose life so you could live.
Which have you chosen?
Remember this: the choices we daily make will in turn shape our character, our future and our eternal destination.
In God's Word called the "Bible", He has set forth the benefits and the outcome of our ultimate choice to either live or die.
Let's listen to God's prophetic end results of those who choose life and those who have chosen death in Psalm 1:6-For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
One of the wisest man that ever lived, King Solomon speaks these profound words in Proverbs 14:12-There is a way that seems right to a man but the end is the way to death.
God's command on today is simple. Choose life and live or choose the curse and die.
God's promise in this command is that not only will you live, but scripture declares that you and your children may live.
Leaving a legacy of a life in Christ for your children is the greatest give you can give them. It is one that can not be bought and it is one that they can forever treasure in the good times and hard times of life.
If you train them up int he nurture and admonition of God and His Word, they may depart, but God's Word declares that they will one day come back to it.
Which have you chosen on today? To live for God and leave a legacy for your children or to live for self and spend the rest of eternity separated from God?
What is my choice? Ponder this question on today and as you do, I pray it convicts and enables you to continually and daily make the right decision in choosing life so that you and your children may live.
God bless you all.
I love you.
