2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
The Apostle Paul pens this letter to Timothy whom he describes in the first book of 1 Timothy as "a true son of the faith".
In his letters to Timothy, Paul is preparing him for the ministry of a "Pastor". He reminds him in this text to stir up the gift that God has already placed in side of him. He also reminds Timothy not to fear or worry about the unknown future of his ministry, do not fear in preaching Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Perhaps he may have been afraid of ending up n prison like Paul for preaching Jesus Christ, he may have feared the thought of not having Paul with him in the physical sense as he ministered.
Whatever the reason for Timothy's fear, Paul reminds him that the spirit of "fear" does not come from God. Do not " be afraid". Why? For God has not given you the spirit of fear , but of love power and a self-control.
Did you hear what Paul said to Timothy? "God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of love, power and self-control." The same applies to you and I. God is saying "Fear not".
This past Monday as I quietly sat down to hear from the Lord, I heard the Holy Spirit spoke to me clearly and said "fear not thyself of evil, nor entertain evil".
Immediately, a peace came upon me at that moment. Since that day, when I encounter evil, I keep hearing the voice of the holy spirit say "fear not nor entertain evil" for I am with you. The Holy Spirit is a guide and a teacher too. Listen to Him!
A call to faith and not fear!
Well, many of you may ask what about my family, job, health, finances, etc.? God is saying "fear not, you do not have to be afraid" for I have not given you a spirit of fear, but of love, power and self control.
Eventhough family, job, health, finances, health, etc are all important none of these situations are a cause for us to fear according to God's Word. I believe God! We are His children.
Fear is not from God, therefore we must resist, reject and rebuke it.
Isaiah 54:17- No weapon formed against you shall succeed and every tongue that rise up against you, thou shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and self-control. One characteristic of the Holy Spirit is "Power" that is mighty and strong, loving and full of self control.
God has not given us a spirit of fear, but He has given us His "Holy Spirit." This Holy Spirit is full of confidence and not fear.
The perfect love of "God" casts out fear.
God's Holy Spirit works in us daily to help us live a life that is pleasing to God so that one day he would present us before the presence of God with great joy.
Saints, we are united with God through Christ Jesus. No need to "fear" for God is with us. Scripture declares that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus.
As you venture out today, remember that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but He has given you the "Holy Spirit" as your shield, guide and protector.
A call to faith and not fear. Which have you chosen?
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for He has not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, power and self-control.
I love you all.
