Psalm 8:3-4 - When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?
As David lays down, looking up to heaven under the night sky, he ponders in his mind with awe and incomprehensible thoughts of how a Powerful and Sovereign God who placed the sun, stars and moon in the sky could be concerned about or pay any attention to unworthy, mortal man who is so small in comparison to His vast creative work.
When David considers God’s heavens, the work of God’s fingers, the moon and the stars which God set in place, David realized that even though he was a king, even though he and others may have felt that he was important, in comparison to God's vast creation, he was just a small part of all that exist by God's creative hands.
In realizing who he was in comparison to God's vast creation, David asked the question-What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him? What is it about man that causes you to take notice of Him and fix your eyes attentively upon Him?
What is it about a creature made of dust of the earth, who is but dust and ashes that would cause you to turn your thoughts to Him? What is it about man that causes you to be concerned about Him and tend to his every need? What is about man that would cause You to seek him out and bestows His love and mercy upon man? What is it?
What is it about us that causes God to think upon us? It is the saving of our souls.
As sinful creations, we all are of importance to God. Our bodies are mortal, but our souls which will live forever is immortal and the salvation of our soul is God’s priority.
To God, our soul is worth the cost, even when the cost is the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Yes, we are somebody in the eyes of God, therefore, He is mindful of us and our need to be saved from the penalty of sin and death.
God knows us from the very beginning of time. Scripture declares in Genesis 1:27-God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. This text proves how much thought God put into our making us.
Not only did God created us in His image, but He graciously crowned us with His glory and majesty and has given man dominion over the works of His hands and the affairs of this world.
In thinking about God's gracious love and concern for tiny man in comparison to all his vast creation, we should be moved in our hearts, mind and soul to a place of humble submission and worship to God.
O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth.
God is so big that He makes the universe with His fingers; man is so small that he is a tiny spec of dust in comparison to God's creative universe. Yet, David did not doubt that God was mindful of man; he simply said “You are mindful of Him.”
Today I urge all of us to grab ahold of David’s confidence that God is mindful of us.
Saints, as you venture out today, I urge all of us to go out like David, in confidence and assurance that you are somebody in the eyes of God and that He is mindful of us.
Yes, we are constantly on the mind of our God, as small as we may be in comparison to His vast creation.
David not only declares that God is mindful of us, but he also declares that there is a personal connection between God and man when he declares that "God visits us."
Remember: You are somebody in the eyes of God and you are on His mind this day and every day.
God bless you.
