1 Peter 5:8 - 8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
Be alert, paying close attention to your thoughts, words and actions. Be watchful, sober minded, vigilant and very cautious because the adversary, satan is seeking whom he may devour.
The word devour is a term that refers to an animal killing its prey. That is exactly how Satan kills his prey by devouring the prey.
Devour in this particular text means satan's activities against believers.
Be watchful! Do not be deceived by the enemy willingness to support or befriend you. Be alert! Stay in the Word of God and continue to be prayerful before God.
Our adversary, the accuser of the brethern, our enemy, satan. the devil, a few names by which he is known opposes you, contends with you, hates you, and he puts forth every effort to go against the good that you do.
Saints, now is the hour to be watchful, sober minded and prayerful like never before.
Watchman-What is it? It depends on who you ask. Webster dictionary describes a watchman as person who keeps watch, a security guard, a person who watches over and protects property, assets or people.
During Ezekiel’s lifetime, a physical Watchman was one who stood guarding the city wall, scanning the horizons, looking closely for any type of danger from the enemy who's goal is to kill steal and destroy.
When the Watchman saw danger ahead, he would sound the alarm by blowing the trumpet to warn the people of pending danger. In hearing the trumpet, the people would rush to safety within the city walls.
Within the Body of Christ, the Lord God has placed “Spiritual Watchmen” over his people,, “you and I, to name a few."
Like the “watchman in Ezekiel's day, we Preachers and Teachers of the Gospel who have been called by God are to warn the people, not only of pending danger from the enemy, but pending judgment of sin. We are to speak the truth without compromise.
Preachers and Teachers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, it is time to stand post! It is time to warn God's people of pending danger. It is time to exhort and convince them that it is very crucial to their souls that they be alert, watchful, sober minded and prayerful. We must convince them to guard their hearts and minds also for the adversary is real.
I once heard a Preacher said "be alert and not the enemy desert"!
Saints, satan is crafty. He prowls around looking for opportunities to catch you off guard and to intimidate you in his attempt to discourage you.
The enemy is real! Jesus told Peter in Luke 22:31-Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. In other words, Jesus was warning Peter that satan was seeking an opportunity to get Peter.
When Peter should have been watching and praying as Jesus commanded, he fell asleep.
When you should have been praying and studying the word of God, you were on facebook, your iphone or busy with other things. The time to focus on God and who He has created you to be is now.
Watchman, we have a work to do in warning the people and we too ourselves have to heed that same warning. We must be vigilant, alert, sober minded and always prayerful and watchful.
The evil one, satan, who is against us, goes about like a lion with his mouth wide open in search of food. Do not let that food be you.
The bible clearly states that satan does exist. He can be seen through his activities throughout the world. The vision in which this view can be seen is only in the spiritual realm.
Ephesians 6:12- For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Jesus himself warns us of satan and his tactics. Let's listen to John 10:10 The robber comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I came so they might have life, and life more abundantly.
Gird up your loins with the Gospel truth people of God. The fight for your mind, body and soul is on.
The good news on today concerning the adversary is that scripture declares that he is not really a lion, he only imitates a lion. He prowls like a lion and he roars like a lion but he is not a lion.
Things God Gives the Christian to Fight With
A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we[d] are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.[e] 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.[f] 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Use your weapon of warfare that God has given you in His Word for these are the only tools needed to help you stay alert, sober minded and vigilant against satan in these evil days in which we now live.
God bless you all.
