2 Timothy 4:7-8 - I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
I received the news last night after I got home from a prior preaching engagement on yesterday, of the sudden passing away of one of my faithful Sunday School Student and church brother, Rodney Cook.
Shocked, sadden and happy.
Shocked at the suddenness of his passing because he was the picture of health. One who worked out daily and monitored what he ate.
Sadden because I won't be able to physically talk with him, hear his questions, concerns and comments in Sunday School anymore. I won't be able to see the presence of his smiling face on the 4th row to the left of the class as he enjoyed Sunday school. Nor will I be able to see him in passing through the Sanctuary and halls of the church.
Indeed, his daily devotional messages on facebook whom we all looked forward to each day will be missed. Rodney continually reminded all of us who God is, who He was in His life and what He can and is able to do and be in the life of all those who do not know God.
Rodney loved God. He had a passion for Christ and pursed righteousness. His life proved it. He was truly an example of a "Christian Soldier" on the battlefield for the Lord.
He was young, energetic, kind and loving to all he encountered. I do not believe that Rodney met a stranger. Truly, he was an example to the young and old of one who walked with the Lord with all his heart.
Rodney's daily devotional messages through facebook touched many lives. He wanted the world to know that he "loved Jesus" and His writings, witnessing and life living proved it.
I am Happy because I know that scripture declares "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord".
Rest in peace my brother for you have let your light so shine here on earth and indeed men have seen your good works and God was glorified through them.
Your presence will truly be missed.
