John 14:27- Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Peace-"Shalom" in the Hebrew.
These words were spoken by Jesus to His disciple during the last supper. His time of departure was at hand and He knew that their hearts would be troubled after He leave them. He knew that they would find it very difficult to no longer be able to share in the physical relationship which they shared for the past 3 years.
Jesus was going to be crucified, resurrected and ascended back to heaven, a place where they cannot go with Him in the physical sense, therefore Jesus offers them His peace.
Jesus says "My peace I give you". I do not give to you as the world gives."
The "peace" that Jesus is speaking of is not the peace that means absence of trouble in this life, or peace based on circumstances, but peace that one can have, even in the midst of troubled circumstances.
The "Peace" that surpasses all understanding. It is a peace in knowing that regardless of what my situation may be, regardless of what I see or think, regardless of the thoughts that the enemy may bring to my mind that are contrary to God's Word, God is still in control and I can have rest and peace in knowing that nothing happens in my life that He is not aware. God sees and know all things concerning you and I.
When we entered the world, we entered as God's enemies because of our inherited sins from our first parents Adam and Eve, but after salvation through Christ Jesus, we can now have peace with God and the peace of God.
Romans 5:1 says, "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God." We who trust Christ are redeemed and declared righteous by faith. Our sins are forgiven, rebellion ceases, the war is over, and we have peace with God. That was God's wonderful purpose in salvation.
Colossians 1:20-22 says that Christ "made peace through the blood of His cross.... And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach."
Yes, Jesus offers you and I peace on today that the world cannot give us. Peace and calmness in trials, peace that causes you to rejoice and sing unto the Lord when you feel like crying, peace that causes you to worship instead of complaining, peace that soothes the soul in the storms of life. This is the peace that Jesus offers on today.
Perhaps you may have awoken to chaos and is in need of peace. You may have asked yourself "where can I find peace that is not affected by trouble, pain, sorrow or danger? The answer is in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Are you in need of peace on today? Do you need rest for your weary soul? Are you tired of the temporary peace that the world offers through many source of things?
If you are searching for peace on today, search no more for Jesus declares that He alone has the peace in which you stand in need of. A peace that the world can not give. A peace to calm your troubled heart and soul. A peace and rest and that can only be found in Jesus Himself, through the comfort of His Holy Spirit whom God the Father will send in Jesus name.
The Holy Spirit, our Comforter and guide, will teach us all things and bring to remembrance all that Jesus has spoken to us in His Word. Therefore, let not your hearts be troubled on today, neither be afraid for Jesus is with you now and throughout eternity.
My peace I leave with you, Not the world's peace, but my peace that will forever be rest for your weary souls and aching hearts.
Will you trust Jesus on today to be that "peace" you desperately stand in need of? I promise you that you will never regret making Him your choice and source of peace.
