1 Peter 2:2 - Desire God's pure word as newborn babies desire milk. Then you will grow in your salvation.
It is God's will that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Once we have been "born again", "saved" from sin and death penalty by faith in Jesus Christ alone, the Holy Spirit takes up residence on in the inside of us.
1 Corinthians 6:19-Don't you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself.
Just like our physical body needs food, our spiritual soul needs food also. The only food that is required of our soul is the “Word” of God. It is the “Word of God” that causes us to spiritually live and daily strive in our attempt to reach the goal of Christ likeness. Yes, the Word of God is our spiritual food for the spirit of God that lives inside of us.
God created us in His likeness. His spirit in us produces fruit of His likeness through us if He truly lives in us. But, of course, not without the daily feeding and eating of His Word that is found in His bible and prayer.
God expects us to grow spiritually and apart from the leading of His Holy Spirit through His Word and prayer, it is impossible for us to continue to grow spiritually and bare fruit, which God commands us to do.
We are commanded to meditate on God's Word day and night for without the Word of God there can be no spiritual growth. The two go hand in hand. You cannot have one without the other!
God and His Word is one. John 1:1-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joshua 1:8-Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
If you are confessing Christ, you must grow and bear fruit. That is a command from God.
Any Christian who wants to grow spiritually must develop a habit of daily praying, reading, studying and meditating on God's Word. There is no other way to obtain spiritual growth. No, good deeds, kindness and being nice is not the avenue for spiritual growth. We do these things because we are growing spiritually, not because they cause us to grow spiritually.
As we daily meditate on God's Word and apply it to our lives, we begin to bear the fruit of the spirit that are listed in Galatians 5:22-23-But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
When we pray to God, we are in commune with Him. When we read His Word, He is in commune with us. We speak to God through prayer and God speaks to us through His Word. Of course, there are other ways that God speaks, but these are the ways in which we grow spiritually.
As a believer in Christ Jesus, have you developed the habit of daily prayer, reading and meditating on God's Word? If not, I can almost assure you that you are not growing spiritually.
God's Word is what sets our life on course for spiritual growth. Nothing else will do!
What habits are you daily participating in that is causing you to grow spiritually?
What habits are you participating in that is causing you to continue to stay separated and disconnected from God and growing spiritually? Think about it!
Spiritual growth and the Word of God! You cannot have one without the other!
I can only hope and pray that spiritual growth through the Word of God and prayer is your desire on today because it is the only means of spiritual growth.
A new born baby desires milk from the mother who is it's source of life and we as Christians should desire the milk of our Father who is our source of spiritual life.
Believe it or not, Jesus is the only assurance we have. Everything else is as a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow, including life.
God bless you all.
