Mark 1:35- Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
What’s important? We usually consider whatever is the most urgent to be the most important. But in this text, Jesus shows us that early morning "prayer" to the Father is more important than anything.
Prayer to God, in the presence of God, sets our tone for the day. It gives us the energy needed to run the day's race in a world that is chaotic and full of unrest.
Very early in the still, quietness of the morning, Jesus withdrew Himself from wherever He was and made His way to a solitary place in the desert or mountain where he could spend time with God the Father.
A place where he could rest in the presence of God. A place away from all the teaching, preaching and healing. A place of refreshing and replenishing with the Father.
Jesus knew the importance of spending quality time with the father. Jesus made it a habit of seeking God and spending time with Him daily.
What about us? Are you making time with Jesus a priority in your livfe? Is He at the top of your list for quality time? Do you arise early to seek Him before making your way out into this chaotic world?
Even though Jesus was 100% human and 100% divine, He still felt a need to dedicated time to praying to God The Father.
Jesus gives us this example today as a way of saying "this is what I require of you"! This is how you do it! This is how you connect to God! This is how you find the peace, rest and assurance that you all desperately need.
Seeking God first thing when we arise, says to God, “You are first in my life.”
Prayer is communion with God. He is calling us into constant and continual prayer and communion with Him.
You will never grow spiritually nor enter into a close and personal relationship with God by just attending church once a week.
Friendship with God is built by daily sharing all your life experiences with him. Pray, study and meditate on His Word, worship Him and empty yourself out to Him. He promises to hear and answer your prayers saints.
Friendship with God requires changing our attitude towards God and spending more quality time doing what we are required of Him to do.
We are commanded in scripture to pray to the Father. We are to pray for one another, pray for those that have rule over us, pray for our leaders, pray for our government, pray for the sick, pray without ceasing and on and on we are commanded to pray.
Prayer is a form of obedience and service to God.
A lack of prayer demonstrates a lack of faith and a lack of trust in God. James 2:17-Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
Many people often feel the need to “get away” from their daily routine in order to pray, worship and spend time with God when "all hell has broken loose in their lives". Other than that, prayer to God is not a priority to them.
If we take the time through practiced behavior in arising early every morning and making God and being in His presence our priority, we won't have to feel that He is absent from our lives at any time.
In order for us to have the mindset of Christ, we must put on the mind of Christ. What is the mind of Christ? The Word of God!
Jesus has set the example in this text of the mind that has set Christ as first priority in their life. Following his example is what needs to take place now.
Philippians 2:5-5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
God bids us to come boldly to this throne in prayer so that we may seek His help and find the help we so desperately need.
Hebrews 4:16-Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Praying to God demonstrates our faith in God. Seeking Him first when we rise every morning demonstrates His priority in our lives.
Prayer allows us to plug into God's power. It is through prayer and the Word of God where the weapons of warfare are found. God is present at both of these places. If you seek Him, you will find Him here too. More so than any where else.
When we fail to arise early and place God first on our list, we tend to fall into fear, anxiety, worry and at time despair.
Failure to arise early to a quiet place in prayer with God the Father as Jesus did also causes us to feel unsure of God's love and presence with us in times of difficulty and uncertainties.
Failure to arise early to a quiet place in prayer with God the Father as Jesus did also brings about doubt and thoughts of our ability to not be able to do those things which God has already assigned to our hands to do.
What about you? Is prayer and quality time with God at the top of your daily list of things to do? I can only hope and pray that He is.
When all else is said and done, when we have gone the last mile of the way, when we have fought our last battle, when we have gained our last prize in life, we will find that God and His Word is only left standing. Everything else fades away or perish.
Is early morning prayer to God the Father at the top of your list each day? Was it once there and is now gone? Why not set aside some time today for a much needed appointment with God the Father who is the greatest Therapist you will ever encounter.
Yes, meeting Jesus is an encounter, not a meeting because after you have been with Him in His presence, you will never be the same.
God has the solution to every problem. He alone can solve everyone of them. He needs no one’s help and He keeps all your requests confidential.
Seek God on today through Prayer. Make Him the number one priority in your life for it is the best decision you could ever make.
God bless and I love you all.
