Acts 4:13 - When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
God word declares in 1 Corinthians 1:27 For God has chosen the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and he has chosen the weak of the world to shame the mighty.
Confusing the wise by the foolishness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and God’s miracle working power that brought about healing of a lame man by Peter and John is exactly what God did with the religious leaders who confronted Peter and John.
Having healed a lame man at the temple gate, having preached and teach Jesus’ resurrection from the dead and having lead five thousand more souls to Christ through their teaching, Peter and John, filled with the Holy Spirit, were taken into custody and held overnight. The next day they found themselves standing before the Rulers of the people, Scribes, High Priest and Elders of Israel being accused of causing trouble in the city.
At this great gathering of leaders who had just murdered Jesus weeks prior, Peter took the opportunity to preach to them under the power of the Holy Spirit with power and authority, this same Jesus whom they had murdered. LOOK AT GOD!!!
The response to Peter's message of the Gospel is seen in vs#13-When they saw the boldness of Peter and John and perceived that they were illiterate and uneducated men, they marveled. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.
GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Oh, the power of the Gospel! Indeed it will confuse the enemy and turn a city upside down!
Peter and John were not educated men like those of their day. They had no formal religious training or credentials. No, they were common men who society was not impressed with nor considered to be anybody worthwhile being used to do anything other than being a fishermen.
But oh, when a common, uneducated man or woman encounters Jesus, nothing remains the same and everything changes!
Do not judge the book by it's cover! What you think you know, you don't!
These elders and rulers thought they knew who Peter and John was until this encounter with them that day.
When Peter and John were released under the command to never preach the name of Jesus again, He left these leaders with no doubt that they had been in the presence of Jesus.
Has your encounter with others left them knowing without a doubt that you had been with Jesus?
There is no way you can encounter Jesus and remain the same. Pastor Shirley Caesar puts it this way "you can be the "chief of sinners" but when you encounter Jesus Christ, you will never be the same.
Be very careful how you look at a person and base their credentials on the standards of the world. God operates in a different realm called the "Spirit" of God.
That day, Peter and John did what God commands all of us to do in 1 Peter 3:15-But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and fear.
What you think you know, you don't!
God can use who He wants, when He wants to and how He wants to. Peter and John are proof of that in this text.
Remember this if you do not remember anything else. IT IS NOT WHAT YOU GOT, BUT WHO YOU GOT!
Never let anyone put you in a box!
I GOT JESUS AND THAT'S ENOUGH! EVERLASTING POWER!!!!
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for the power of His Holy Spirit and it's wonder working power that He flows in and through your life.
I love you all.
