Philippians 3:13-14 - Brothers, I do not count myself to have attained, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press towards the goal to the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
2015 is gone and will never return. We can no longer grab ahold of it. It is time to continue moving forward with confidence and assurance in Christ Jesus for there is a prize to be won only by looking forward unto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith and not looking back.
The Apostle Paul declares in this text that he has not made it on his own. In viewing the past he knew that if if had not been for the Lord, he would not be where he was at the time of his writing this text.
The Apostle Paul, in viewing his life, realizes that it is because of Christ that He can boldly declare these words. In looking retrospect, he knew without a doubt that “true victory” is only found in Christ and no one or nothing else.
Paul is not focusing on what was, what could have, should have, would have or what if. His focus is his future with Christ in view.
The call today is to forget the past and focus on your future with Christ Jesus.
Forget all those past hurts, pains, failures, disappointments, misunderstanding of 2015. Let them go!!! You cannot change the past!
Now is the time to focus on the future and where Christ is trying to take you in Him. There is a great work that God wants to work in and through all of us, but we must be a willing vessel.
The Apostle Paul makes it clear to all of us as believers on today that we not only need to but we MUST put our focus on what is before us and not what is behind.
In forgetting our past, we allow the “open doors” of opportunities that lead to eternity with Christ to swing wide open once we begin to move forward Christ.
Yes, the Lord has a bright future in Christ Jesus that awaits you and I but in order to walk therein, we must forget the past and move forward with Him into our future.
the past is just that, the past! 2015 is a WAS. it is gone and never to return!
The enemy of our minds wants to continue to hold us hostage to our past, but God, the Lord of the universe is trying to push us forward into His future with us.
In order to move forward with God, the past MUST be left behind.
Let's call up a few witnesses. The Apostle Paul himself was persecutor of the believers. He had to let go of his past after his experience on the road to Damascus so that he would be able to move forward into his future ministry that God had already planned and called him to before the foundation of the world.
Paul even went as far as saying that all his accomplishments in life were "as dung" when he considers his relationship with Christ and the future that lies ahead with Christ for him.
Moses let the past behind when he left his position as Prince in Pharaoh's palace in order for God to use him mightily in delivering His people from Egyptian bondage.
Abraham had to leave his kindred in order for Him to enter into the fullness of God's future promises for him and his seed.
What is your past that God is calling you from so that he can move you forward into that which He too has predestined for your future? What is it?
I have purposed in my heart and mind that 2015 will not be my focus in 2016. Christ goals for my life is my goal for my life, therefore, I am not looking back, but pressing forward into my future with Christ so that I can be used in the service of His Kingdom here on earth. You too must do the same!
In our past life prior to Christ, we were identified with satan. But, when the Holy Spirit entered into our hearts at the time of our salvation, our identity was changed. We are no longer the same.
The Apostle Paul describes the spiritual transformation that took place within us at salvation as one that caused us to no longer remain the same. Let's listen to 2 Corinthians 5:17-Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.[a] The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
The life of a new creation in Christ Jesus cannot be lived looking back, but pressing forward to the goal of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Forgetting the past and reaching toward the future with Christ in view is where I am headed in 2016. What about you?
God bless and I love you all.
