Matthew 10:40 He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
In chapter 10 of this text, Jesus had been warning His disciples about the different kinds of persecution they could possibly suffer for the sake of the Gospel.
In other words, He was letting them know that the price they will pay as "ambassadors" for Christ who deliver the Gospel message will be great and would possibly lead to not only persecution, but also to their deaths.
In our key verse, after having warned His disciples of what's to come for them in the future, Jesus also gives them a words of encouragement by telling them in vs#40 of this text that not all will reject your message for some will respond and welcome it and receive it and by doing so, they are accepting Jesus and God the Father who sent Him.
When a Christian, one that is sent by God as a deliverer of His Gospel Message is received by those to whom they are sent to, Christ and God is also being received.
Jesus declares these profound words in John 10:30-"My Father and I are one.”
The Word of God is God! John 1:1-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14-And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Matthew 24:14a- And this Gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations.
People of God, remember that you are not responsible for making others accept God's Word, your duty is to put it out there.
Some people will receive you and God's message and some will not, but, do not be discouraged if they receive not. Just obey God!!!
The Apostle Paul puts it this way "one water, one plant and God gives the increase". Just do what is assigned to you by God and leave the rest up to Him.
I want to end with one point about this lesson today. There is no way that anyone can claim to have a personal, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and at the same time, reject those whom God sends into the world as His Ambassadors.
I am speaking of those who boldly claim "I am saved, I believe in Jesus, I read my bible daily, I love God and His Gospel" and then turn around and reject those whom God sent.
Here is what Jesus says concerning this type of mindset and behavior in Matthew 12:30-This is war, and there is no neutral ground. If you’re not on my side, you’re the enemy; if you’re not helping, you’re making things worse.
NLT version puts it this way in Matthew 12:30-"Anyone who isn't with me opposes me, and anyone who isn't working with me is actually working against me.
Jesus drives home many points in this text. I will mention a couple of them. (1) Jesus plainly that teaches that the Gospel message must be taken out into the world and accepted for the saving of our souls. (2) not all will receive those whom he sent, but some will. (3) When the Gospel message and messenger is received, Jesus and God the Father who sent Him is also received. (4) The Father and the Son is one. Receiving one means receiving all.
Remember, Jesus said "He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."
What a blessing and honor it is to be one of His "sent-ones."
Thank you Lord, for you alone are God and worthy of all the praise, glory and honor.
People of God, GO!!!
All you who are sent to proclaim the Gospel to this dying world that is in desperate need of hearing and receiving MUST GO AND DO IT for nothing will happen until those that are sent goes.
2 Timothy 4:2-Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
