Luke 4:42-44 When it was day He departed and went into a remote place. And searching for Him, the people came to Him and tried to prevent Him from leaving them. 43 But He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to other cities also, for this is why I was sent.” 44 And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
Where is your priority? Where should it be? Has God given you a purpose in life? Of course He has! Are you operating in it? Where are you concerning that which God has assigned to your hands?
Many people today have and still are putting everything that is temporal in front of a personal relationships with God and His purpose for their lives.
Many are seeking materials possessions, more things, more opportunities to get more of whatever it is that they have been deceived into believing will satisfy that empty well within that could never be filled apart from God.
Is pursuit of the things the world has to offer that are temporary is where you find yourself on today? Well, if you answered yes, it is time to get your priority in order.
Earthly things does not bring contentment, peace nor everlasting joy. They may make us happy for a while and then we find ourselves needing something or someone else to bring us back to a place of temporary happiness again and again.
A day is coming when everything we do here on earth will come to an end for all of us. Putting God at the top of the list is indeed a matter of life or death for all of us.
One thing of assurety that is found in 1 John 2:17 -The world and its desires are passing away, but the one who does the will of God lives forever.
If your priorities are not in order, your life will not be in order. If your priorities are not right, you won't be right.
Who or what is your God? You may say the true and living God, but is it His face you seek every morning when you rise?
If not, who or what is your #1 priority? Where and how are you spending most of your time is where you will find the answer.
In this text, we find Jesus focusing on and doing what He was sent by the Father to do. The will of the Father was Jesus #1 priority.
Let's listen to what Jesus says His purpose for coming to earth was and how He stuck with God's agenda for Him in Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19-to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Throughout scripture from Genesis to Revelation, we see the purpose of Christ fulfilled. John 10:30-I and the Father are One.
Jesus made spending time in communication with the Father in prayer, His #1 priority. He could not fulfill the purpose of the Father without communication with Him.
How about you and I? Are we doing that? Are we conversing with the Father everyday?
Have you ever heard the saying: only what you do for Christ will last? Well, that is a true saying!
God has a question for you and I on today in Mark 8:36- For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?
Yes, we can lose our soul and sight of God when our #1 pursuit is earthly and perishable people or things if we die apart from a personal relationship with God by faith through Jesus Christ.
Believe it or not, GOD MUST BECOME THE #1 PRIORITY IN YOUR LIFE!
Anything or anyone you place as first in your life above God is called an ‘”IDOL.” God himself declares in Exodus 20:3 "You must not have any other god but me.
What does Christ say our priority should be? He gave us some help in Matthew 6:33-To seek first the kingdom of God. To live our lives with eternity in mind.
The Apostle Paul reminds us of this same thing in Colossians 3:2- “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.”
What should our priorities be? We should focus on things that will last for eternity?
Jesus knew His priorities and His purpose. His relationship with the Father was His #1 priority and His purpose for coming to earth was to save those that were lost, to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind (spiritually), to set free those who were oppressed and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Jesus knew His purpose and kept it as His #1 priority.
Jesus earthly mission was accomplished and now He is seated in heaven at the right hand of God the Father, making intercessions for those who have made the "CHOICE" to make Him their #1 priority.
Jesus declares in in John 9:4-I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
Is this your mindset? Philippians 2:5-Let this mind be in you which is also in Christ Jesus.
Making God a priority simply means putting Him first in your life.
I am not saying you should neglect your responsibility and duty and do nothing else.
What I am saying is that God must be at the top of your agenda everyday. We must make the choice daily to spend time with God in His presence through prayer, study and worship.
It is imperative that our focus shift from temporal things to thing eternal. Life now is a place of preparation for life eternal either in heaven with God or in hell apart from God.
The choice is yours and mine. Temporal or eternal? Where is your priority.
I want to leave you with this thought: God has gifted each of us with unique gifts with a purpose in mind for us to use them in His kingdom here on earth. Are we operating in them? If not, have you set your mind to pursue Him for the answer on what they are and how to use them? If you do, He will show you once you make Him your # 1 priority.
It is time to get your priority in order!
