Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
Everyone of us have a name.
In our world today, many are given names without any thought put into them.
These names are either common everyday names or have been made up by either parents, grandparents, relatives or friends that are given to children each and every day that have no biblical meaning to them.
Biblically speaking, names have meanings. Names tells something about a person's character or their nature.
For example the name Zechariah means "The Lord has remembered." The name Abraham means "father of a multitude." The name Eve means "to give life."
We are told in this text that this child that shall be born will have the Government upon His shoulder.
Government=misrah in Hebrew. This child that shall be born will govern, rule, direct, lead and be the head of the Church, which is the body of Christ.
Isaiah 9:7 – Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end. Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and to establish it with justice and with righteousness, from now until forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will perform this.
Isaiah 22:22- “Then I will set the key of the house of David on his shoulder, when he opens no one will shut, when he shuts no one will open.”
In these passages of scripture we are given six names for the Christ child that shall be born. These names speaks of His nature and His Character. ,
Wonderful Counselor-He counsels us the ways of God through the Word of God that is found in His Holy bible.
John 14:26- “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
Mighty God, Immanuel, which is God with us. The Sovereign God of the universe, Great and Mighty in Power and Authority.
Mighty God who declares to be the "Word of God" from the beginning in John 1:1 and Genesis 1:1. The "Word of God" that put on flesh and dwelt among us as a human. MIGHTY GOD INDEED!!
Everlasting Father-This child that shall be born will reign as "Everlasting Father" from eternity to eternity.
Jesus declares in John 10:30-The Father and i are one. Yes, three in one. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Known as the "TRINITY" which is God in three persons.
Hebrew 1:3 - “And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature.”
Prince of Peace- The name of this child that shall be born will be "Prince of Peace." It is Jesus who promises keep continual peace in the minds of those whose minds are stayed on Him.
It is this child Jesus that shall come, He will give peace that will not only guard our hearts and minds, but He will make that inner "peace" that He gives to us surpass human understanding even in the fiercest storms or battles of life.
John 14:27-, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”
Remember, people of God that Christmas is about the birth of Christ who came down to earth to die for sinful man.
God put on flesh, dwelt among us and died just to pay the price of our sin debt that we could not pay. Blood had to be shed to reconcile us back to God and to avoid the consequences of sin and death.
People of God, Christmas should be a time of celebration and rejoicing. A time of praise and thanksgiving to God for sending His Son Jesus into the world over 2k years ago through a miraculous virgin birth so that we might be saved.
Isaiah 9:6 is a prophecy of the virgin birth was fulfilled in Jesus who was born to die. It was Jesus who was born in a manger, lived the life of God before us and died on a cross to save us.
In the birth of Christ our redemption was made complete.
