Matthew 2:11 11 They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
When the "wise men or Magi" set out to follow the east "star", they left with the mindset of praise and worship to the "KING."
After having arrived in Bethlehem where the "Christ Child" wasthe "wise men" not only bow down and worshiped Him, but they presented Him with "Gifts" fit for a king.
Having seen with their own eyes, the "King of the Jews" the "wise men" opened their treasures and presented Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Gifts that were indeed fit for a "KING.
The wise men recognized that this baby born in a manger was no ordinary baby. He is "King Jesus", God in human flesh.
1st gift-Gold is a gift that would be presented to a “KING” because it was the most precious metal of that day and it symbolized Jesus' Royalty and His Deity.
2nd Gift-Frankincense is useful in worship. The temple Priest uses this incense to burn when offering up prayers to the Father on behalf of the people.
Jesus is our High Priest, our Mediator between God and man. 1 Timothy 2:5-There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.
When frankincense (intercession is made) is burned on our behalf by our High Priest, Jesus, it ascends up to God as a sweet aroma into His nostrils. 2 Corinthians 2:15- For we are to God a sweet fragrance of Christ among those who are saved and among those who perish.
3rd gift-Myrrh is an embalming spice that is used to embalm the dead body to reduce the stench from a dead, decaying body. Myrrh points to Jesus death. Jesus being born to die.
The sum of the gifts the "wise men " brought to Jesus represents His Sovereign Dominion over the universe, His Sacred Deity and His Sacrificial Death.
What will be your “gift” to Jesus this Christmas? You do know that all we have belongs to Him right?
Not sure what to offer Jesus this Christmas? How about giving Him yourself and in doing so you are giving Him the opportunity to save you from your sins?
Perhaps your obedience and commitment to a lifestyle of worship and praise to Him for all He has done for you could be another “gift”.
How about your service, time, talents and tithe?
How about being a witness to the true Christmas story that is not found in the department stores, but in the bible and in your life living?
Who or what will you seek this Christmas? The “gift” that will perish or the Everlasting 'GIFT" called Jesus Christ?
Where are you looking in search of your gift? I pray it is at Bethlehem and Calvary.
The "wise men" followed the east "Star" looking for Jesus and they found Him.
Seek Jesus and He can use you this Christmas to show love and compassion to the hurting and poor. In doing so, you can lead them to Christ in a tangible and spiritual way.
When we look in the right place (bible) and to the right person (JESUS), we will truly find joy this Christmas that is from everlasting to everlasting.
Gifts fit for a "KING"!
There could be no greater “gift” given this Christmas than a life that is surrendered to God in "SALVATION" that is offered only through a personal relationship with Christ.
Why not allow the "star" of Bethlehem to lead you to Jesus? If you do, your life would never be the same.
"JESUS" is the "GIFT" that keeps on giving!
This Christmas, give a “gift” that is fit for a king! YOUR LIFE!
