Matthew 2:13-15 Now when they departed, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word. For Herod will seek the young Child to kill Him.”
14 When he rose, he took the young Child and His mother by night, and departed into Egypt, 15 and remained there until the death of Herod, to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through the prophet, “Out of Egypt I have called My Son.”
When the "Wise Men" departed from Bethlehem after seeing the "Christ Child" and presenting Him with gifts, the angel of the Lord appeared and spoke to Joseph in a dream, saying "arise, take the young child and His mother, and escape to Egypt and stay there until I bring you Word."
God in His Sovereignty, being all knowing, now directs Joseph to depart from Bethlehem to Egypt because the jealous and evil King , Herod has a plan to kill the child.
Herod's plot to kill Jesus was set in motion when he told the "wise men" in a private meeting, to “Go and search diligently for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring me word again, so that I may come and worship Him also.
Herod had one plan but God had another plan. Herod's plan was to kill Jesus, but he instead is going to be the one that will die.
WARNING: Be careful of the ditches you dig for others. It does not have to be by killing someone physically, it could be one of deceit, lies, killing them with words from your mouth, setting traps to cause people to fall or bring harm to them, etc. because the ditch you dig, will be your own pitfall.
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
Obeying the angel of the Lord, Joseph arose and took Jesus and Mary to Egypt by night and remained there until the death of Herod.
Matthew 5:18- For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one dot or one mark will pass from the law until all be fulfilled.
Nothing happens in life without God allowing it. He has a purpose in why He does. We do not understand all, but He call us to trust and obey Him.
Believe it or not, but it is the will of God to divinely order our steps.
To obey or disobey His divine direction is up to us, but God will do His part in showing us the path that He would have us to take in life.
This text today again points to the importance of "obedience" to the Word and Will of God for our lives.
God used a dream in vs#12 to warn the "Wise Men" not to return to Herod, but to return home in another direction. Guess what? They obeyed God!
In our text today, God warned Joseph in a dream to "Take the Child to Egypt for Herod has a plan to kill Him." Guess what? Joseph obeyed God too!
In different times and in different ways, God spoke through the prophets of old, but in these last days, He speaks through His Son Jesus whom He has appointed heir of all things and through Him when He made the world.
God promise is to speak to us through His Son, Jesus Christ. He may choose to speak to us through dreams or any other means, but His promise is to speak to us through Christ.
Divine direction! Are you in tune with the Holy Spirit through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
The "wise men" and "Joseph" are our example of obedience and the fruit that comes from it.
To hear and act upon what you heard in obedience or to hear and disobey? Where are you on today in hearing from God to you?
God shows us our sin in the Law of His Word and He bring us to repentance and forgiveness in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Divine direction is available to all who are willing to confess, believe and obey.
Obedience is better than sacrifice!
