2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Mercy- in the greek means compassion, pity, or mercy.
Comfort in the greek means consolation, which means to comfort or encourage.
Has the issue of life caused you to feel discouraged? Have you pursued God's mercies and comfort in the midst of them? He has made them available to you and I on today through Christ Jesus.
Discouragement is a thief that brings along with it, partners called despair, doubt, fear, anxiety, anger, bitterness, depression, pain, hopelessness, self pity and on and on.
Therefore, as believers we cannot afford to allow the issues and circumstances of life to cause us to become discouraged.
What we should do when discouragement shows up is pursue God in hopes of finding the mercy and comfort he offers to all who stand in need of them, for scripture declares that He is the God who comforts us in time of distress and need. He is the one who comforts us when we feel we can't go on anymore or when we are hurting and full of unrest.
Remember David when he was in Ziglag and found himself feeling discouraged? The bible says he encouraged himself in the Lord. We must do the same.
People of God, we have a reason to be encouraged on today for our God is the "Father" of mercies and the God of all comfort.
In the heart of God is mercy towards you and I. Because of His mercy and loving kindness towards us, we are comforted.
Keeping our eyes on Jesus and off of the circumstances is the best way to be encouraged. In Christ, we can have comfort, peace and encouragement.
I pray on today that you will find comfort in knowing that our God is the Father of all mercies and comfort and along with those He also brings us redemption, salvation, forgiveness of sins, deliverance, eternal life, peace of God and peace with God.
God's mercy is described this way in Psalm 86:5-"You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you."
This comforter that God offers to us is the Holy Spirit who lives on the inside of every believer. Yes, the comforter is on the inside of us! Call upon Him for the help you need.
John 14:26-But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
In the NASB version, the word "comforter" is "Helper."
Because God's Word declares that He is our “Helper”, by faith we must believe that and act upon it by trusting God to provide us with the help we need on this Christian journey so that we won’t be weary in well doing.
Take courage on today people of God in knowing that God is there with you in whatever it is that you may be going through.
God is indeed the God who comforts us in our infirmities and in our times of trouble so that we may be able to comfort others who may be going through what we have gone through or still going through with the same comfort God has comforted us with.
Today is the day to set aside all fear and discouragement for God promises to take care of you. You are more important to God than the birds of the air and the lily of the field. Trust Him on today for He promises to do just what He says concerning you and I.
As painful as the test and trials of life that we all have been through or still going through, we can still thank God for them for they have taught us how to show mercy and compassion towards others.
Lamentations 3:22-23 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed;
His compassions do not fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
Today, God offers you a way of escape from discouragement through what He calls mercy and compassion.
Are you willing to trade your discouragement for God's comfort on today? God has made it available to you free of charge.
Oh what an exchange! God's love, His mercy and His compassion in exchange for my discouragement. Who would not want to serve a God like that?
Mercy and compassion is calling you out of discouragement on today. Will you respond?
If you do, I promise you that you will never give discouragement a foot hole in your life anymore because you have found out that mercy and comfort is the only option of hope for you.
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for His everlasting love and compassion towards you and I is never ending.
