Psalm 28:7 - The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I was helped; therefore my heart rejoices, and with my song I will thank Him.
This Psalm of David is a prayer of petition and praise. By doing so, he is showing that his trust and hope is by faith in God alone.
In vs#1-5 of this text, David is making his prayer request known unto the God of his salvation, whom he describes as his "Rock". He request of his God to "hear" the voice of his supplication as he lifts up his heart to Him in prayer and to be spared the fate of the wicked ones that are against him.
In this text, David shows his need and shows us our need for God's help. No, we do not have what it takes to go it alone and survive on this Christian journey, nor this world alone. We need God's help!
Having prayed to God in faith and now knowing by faith that God has answered his prayer and heard his "cry for mercy", David breaks out in this confession that is found in vs#7 of this text. "The Lord Is My Strength and my shield".
Those whose hope and trust is in the Lord are those who receive the blessed assurance of not merely being given strength from God, but having God as their strength and shield.
GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY! Why not serve my Lord and Savior, for indeed He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ask or think according to our faith.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.
David reminds us on today that dependence upon God by faith is truly where strength and protection for the journey in life is found.
This declaration and confession from David can only be made through a personal relationship and through personal experiences with God over time throughout his life.
It is through the test and trials of life where we are forced to seek God and find the strength needed to continue on. It is in the testing of our faith where patience is produced in us according to James 1:3.
My heart trusted in him, and I am helped. Psalm 25:3-No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
Indeed, the heart that truly hope and trust in the Lord shall greatly rejoice.
Remember, true sufficiency for life comes from God alone. When we begin to do as David did in accepting, believing and acknowledging God's Supremacy over the universe, we too by faith can say with boldness, power and authority that "The Lord is my strength and shield on this journey called life."
God bless you and remember that God is just a prayer away. Through faith He promises to hear and answer your prayers.
