Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Scripture declares that life and death are in the power of the tongue. What we speak we shall have, therefore, watch the words you speak to self or others.
Words are incredibly powerful. Believe it or not but words can build up, encourage, and motivate or they can also tear down, hurt, and cause horrible scars.
In other words, the tongue can either bless or curse. Yes, our words can be of mass destruction or of mass blessings.
Proverbs 15:4 - A soothing tongue [speaking words that build up and encourage] is a tree of life, but a perversive tongue [speaking words that overwhelm and depress] crushes the spirit.
Today, make your mouth a fountain of life and not death. Be slow to speak and swift to hear. Seek opportunities to speak kind, tenderhearted words that build up and not tear down. Encourage more and criticize less.
Ephesians 4:29 Let no unwholesome word proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for building up, that it may give grace to the listeners.
What are you speaking? Are the words you speaking producing life or death? Are you building up or tearing down? Are you giving hope or discouragement?
Turning away anger or stirring up anger among your peers? Which are you doing? Proverbs 15:1-A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.
As Christians our goal is not to hurt but help, not to tear down but to build up. How are you operating as a Christian? What are your words saying to those you encounter on a daily basis?
When others leave your presence, can they truly say that they have been blessed by the words that came out of your mouth? Think about it!
Proverbs 15:2-The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pour forth foolishness.
Transforming the words that comes out of our mouth starts with a change in the heart. What comes out of the mouth comes from the heart and defiles a man according to Matthew 15:18.
Our heart influences our tongue. If our heart is full of anger, selfishness, envy, pride, jealousy, rage and all the other ugly stuff that comes out of our heart, we are affected in everything we say and do. Most of all, our witness is ineffective.
Have you been lead to believe that you cannot change the words that comes out of your mouth? God can give us the desire and motivation to bring about the change that is needed to take place in our heart that will allow us to no longer speak the words that tears down, but those that encourages and build up. Philippians 4:13-I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Let today be the day that you purpose in your heart that you will be a person whose mouth is full of life and not death by refraining from attack words.
Today, I purpose in my heart to lift up, encourage, motivate and build up. I purpose to do the things I look for others to do in my life.
Remember, life and death is in the power of the tongue and those that love it shall eat its fruit.
Sweet or bitter fruit? Which are you eating and sharing?
