Matthew 5:14-“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
This passage of scripture comes out of what is known as Jesus "Sermon On The Mount".
In a world that seems to be darkening everyday, we the children of God, the people of God are called to be "Light" in the midst of this dark world in which we live.
Jesus says we are the "Light" of the world. "Light" has to come from a power source. Jesus is the power source of the ""Light" that lives inside the believer. His "Light" will never go out for His "Light" (Word, Gospel) will forever shine.
Jesus also says He is the "Light of the world." Jesus life in comparison to the lives of the Pharisees and the religious leaders emphasized such a clear and great difference between Him and them.
The things Jesus said and the things He did were exactly the opposite to the acts of others. His "Light" shines brightly and the people could easily see a difference between Him and the others. They could see it in His acts and they could hear it in His words.
1 John 1:5-This then is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
Since Jesus is the "Light" and He is in us and we are in Him, we MUST let His light shine in us by acting or reacting to life in ways that are opposite to the ways of this dark world in which we live.
In order for light to be seen, it must shine in darkness. Therefore, as children of the "Light", we are to let the "Light" of the Holy Spirit that lives inside of us shine through us.
Jesus said in Matthew 5:16-Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Adam and Eve started out in the "Light" in the garden, but when man chose to sin, in came darkness.
Jesus describes us as a "Light" that sits on a city hill that can not be hidden. If the "Light of Christ is truly in us, it can not be hidden.
To hide a light is to consider it as useless. It has no purpose being hidden, but when allowed to shine, it penetrates through the darkness that once was.
To impact this dark and lost world as Christians, our "Light" must shine in obedience to the commands of God's Word.
People of God, We have the power to make a difference in our world. Light will overcome darkness every time, but it must be shining to make the difference.
Is your light shining for Jesus? Can you make the confession that "this little of mine, I am gonna let it shine"? I confess that I will let my "Light" shine for all the world to see.
If the "light" of Christ is in you, it should find it's way out for others to see.
If the "Light" of Christ is not in you, all you have to do is ask Him and He will give it to you. The price has already been paid and the "Light" is free of charge.
Sin in our lives is the only thing that keeps the "Light" of Christ from shining in and through us.
If anyone continues to live in sin by choice, here is Christ verdict to you in John 3:19-21 "This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn't come to the light, lest his works would be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God."
In spite of this dark world in which we live that appears to be getting darker instead of brighter, the good news is this that is found in John 1:5 The light shines in darkness, but the darkness has not overcome it.
Amplified version puts it this way: The Light shines on in the [a]darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].
People of God, let your "Light" so shine for Jesus declares that you are the "Light" of the world.
God bless.
