Genesis 50:20 But as for you, you intended to harm me, but God intended it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many lives.
One of the Patriarchs, Jacob, whose name was changed to “Israel” had 12 sons. One of his sons, Joseph was loved and favored by him more than the 11 other sons because he was born of Rachael whom he loved more than his other wife and he was born in Jacob's old age.
Jacob’s love for Joseph was special. Joseph proved his love for Joseph by making him a coat of many colors that was different from the one he made for his other 11 brothers.
At an early age Joseph had 2 dream and told them to his brothers and his father and his brothers hated him the more.
Years after those dreams, out of envy, jealousy and hate for their brother, Joseph's, brothers threw him into a pit, took a piece of his favorite coat (tunic) his father had made him and dipped it goat's blood and showed it to their father and told him that Joseph had been dead, knowing that they had sold him into Egyptian slavery.
Having spent some years in prison, one day Joseph was called from prison to the palace to interpret the king's dream. God through Joseph, interpret the King's dream and Joseph was released from prison and placed 2nd in command in the king's palace.
One morning Joseph woke up in prison the that same night he slept in the King's palace. GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY! LOOK AT WHAT GOD CAN DO!
Joseph was appointed Governor in the land of Egypt. There had been a famine in the land where his father and brothers lived. His brothers came to Egypt to purchase food and Joseph revealed himself to them.
After having now realized that that they are face to face with the same brother they had brought all this evil upon and eventually sold him into slavery, these brothers were very much afraid of Joseph.
Instead of retaliation or "an eye for an eye", Joseph spoke these words to his brothers, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”
What Joseph was saying was that what you did out of envy and jealousy towards me was indeed evil, but God was able to take what you meant for evil and work it for my good.
In other words, Joseph was saying "Because God was in it", your plan of evil against me did not work" against me, but for me. There was a reason that God allowed the evil that you did against me to happen, for you can see today it worked for my good because God's purpose was to use me to save much people, including my father's house too."
In all that Joseph went through, he was still able to see the invisible hand of God working on his behalf, even in the midst of evil.
Even though the motives and actions of Joseph brothers were evil, God worked it for Joseph good.
Here we see the application of Romans 8:28 successfully manifested in the life of Joseph.
God can use anything good or any evil to accomplish His divine purpose for our lives and causes it to work for our good.
What we as believers must remember is that "God is with us" and because He is, who can be against us?
Think about this situation with Joseph in how everything happened at the right time. Yes, the evil things that happened to Joseph happened at the right time for it worked for His good and the good of all people.
I know you may be wondering how can I say that people who purposely do evil deeds against you can work for our good, but this text is proof of that.
Remember, all things will work for your good because "God is in it"! We walk by faith and not by sight. Scripture declares that the just shall live by faith.
All of this that happened to Joseph was at “just the right time” and in “just the right way” so that the right people would be in the right place so that in the end everything would come out the way God had ordained it to be in the beginning.
God will never violate our freewill, even if we are bent on doing evil. Believe it or not, every behavior, be it good or evil, has consequences here on earth and in eternity.
2 Corinthians 5:10-For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his recompense in the body, according to what he has done, whether it was good or bad.
God allowed all this evil to happen to Joseph to bring about His purpose in Joseph's life.
This text is truly a picture of the "providence of God".
Joseph trusted God and saw God's hand through out every detail of what was happening to him.
Even in the incident with Potiphar wife, Joseph trust God. Let's listen to Joseph response to Potiphor wife’s sexual advances towards him in Genesis 39:9-No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?"
Joseph had a personal relationship with God, therefore, he was able to see God in every detail of evil that came against him.
Joseph point and my point on today to you who may be experiencing evil at the hands of others is "Because God is in it", you too will come out in the end with the victory and the testimony.
Whatever evil forces that may be against you on today, remember that "God was and God is."
I repeat this again as my Pastor Isaac J. Holt, Jr. always says "HIM ABLE"!
Trust God on today for He will see you through. Remember, vengeance is mine says the Lord.
When Joseph brother saw Him they feared retaliation of being paid back for what they had done, but because of who Joseph was in God, he did not do retaliate, but instead served the needs of his brothers and his father.
Because God was and still is in” your situation, you can rejoice on today for No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment, you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their vindication is from Me, says the Lord.
As you venture out on today, remember that “God Was and God is! “HIM ABLE”
God bless you all on today.
