Jonah 1:1-3 - Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3-But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee the Lord.
God calls Jonah to preach against sin in the city of Nineveh. Instead of obeying God's command, Jonah, in his disobedience to God, decides that he would take another route from that which God had sent him.
Jonah believed that he knew what was best for him so he decided to obey himself instead of God. He went down to another city called Joppa and board a ship there.
A life of rebellion against God leads no where but "Down". In the situation with Jonah, God allowed a storm to arose at sea once the ship set sail. A storm that appeared to overtake the ship and all it's passengers.
Having called on their false God, the sailors got no result. The awoke Jonah who had gone to sleep in the lower deck of the ship and told him to call on his God so that they may not perish at sea.
Disobedience to God leads to a downward path spiritually.
Let's look at how the path of disobedience lead Jonah to a downward spiral every step of the way.
He went down to Joppa, he went down in the lower deck of the ship, he went down into the sea after being thrown overboard and he went down in the belly of a big fish where he stayed for 3 days.
After 3 days of isolation in the belly of a fish, Jonah was willing to hear and obey God. He ended up going to Nineveh to preach what thus says the Lord.
What is it that God has commanded you to do on today and you have taken it upon yourself to disobey Him? What is it?
In your rebellion to God have you too found yourself on a downward spiral? Have you found yourself in a big sea of trouble? Have you been swallowed by the troubles and cares of this world all because of your disobedience to God's command in your life?
God describes rebellion as witchcraft in 1 Samuel 15:23a- For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Which have you chosen on today? To obey God or to rebel against Him.. Where do you stand concerning your spiritual relationship with God? Is He your God? If so, obey Him!
You may say that God did not call you to preach or teach and that may be true, but He has called all of us to "Salvation". Have you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life?
Have you answered the call to "salvation"? It is a call to every human being, therefore, we all are without excuse.Titus 2:11-For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
Scripture declares in 2 Peter 3:9-The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness. But He is patient with us, because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.
Are you running to the call of "salvation" or away from it? Meditate on this question today for the answer to it can either help you save your life or cause you to loose it in a sea of disobedience.
Remember, disobedience leads to a downward path spiritually. Jonah suffered unnecessarily. Everything that he went through could have been avoided if he had only obeyed God.
Where has disobedience to God lead you? What kind of sea have you found yourself on today because you choose your path in life and not God’s path for your life?
What is your spiritual state on today? Are you saved? Jesus is calling you out from the storm sea called the world and into the ark of safety called “Salvation”.
Have you heard the Lord calling your name? Will you come to Him? Without Jesus as your life raft you may drown out at sea and forever be lost.
Today is the day of “Salvation”! Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near.
A strong command for "action" on our part is being sent forth today from God to mankind around the world.
As we all travel day to day through this world, we all must all keep at the forefront of our minds James 4:14-How do we know what our lives will be like tomorrow? Our life is like the morning fog which is here for a moment and then it's gone.
If you have spent your life being tossed to and fro out at sea in disobedience and if you drown out at sea without God's ark of safety called "salvation", where will you spend the rest of your eternal life?
The condition of our hearts when we die will be the same when we arrive in eternity. There is no 2nd chance for salvation after death.
With a heart that is committed to the obedience of God we are forever safe, but a heart that is committed to the things of this world will be forever lost.
It is hard to survive out on a storm sea (life) without the proper survival tools. We all have been given the necessary tool needed to survive in this life and the life to come.
God has provided "GRACE" for us through the shed blood of Jesus at Calvary.
We have been given the Holy Spirit, our Bible and prayer as tools to help us as we travel through this temporary place called earth to our permanent home in eternity. What we do with them is up to us.
God has given us free will to choose how we will live now and in eternity. The sea we choose to live on, be it obedience or disobedience will determine our eternal destination.
What have you done with your survival kit that God has given you? Are you using it or have you created your own? The only one that will work is the one given you by God.
If you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, I beg, plea, urge you on today to let this day be the day that you make up in your mind to obey and not disobey God’s call to “Salvation.”
Are you running from God in the opposite direction from that which He sent you? There is a clarion call from God in heaven to obedience in your life on today.
God bless and I love you all.
