Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Indeed, God has a plan that is greater than the one we see everyday with our natural eyes.
During this time in Israel history, they were in Babylon captivity due to disobedience.
The Jewish people had been warned by one Prophet of God after another about rebellion, idolatry and disobedience to God. God had warned them over and over again to turn away from pagan idol worship and time after time again, they refused.
Because of the Jewish people's refusal to turn away from idolatry, God promised judgment upon them and in this text, that judgment had already come. They were taken captive by their enemies, the Babylonians and dragged off from Jerusalem to Babylon as captives.
Having been in captivity so long, they felt as though God had forgotten about them. They felt alone and abandoned by God.
I can assume that in their thought of abandonment by God, they probably asked themselves over and over again, "how could God who says He loves us let us end up here for we are His people." I am sure this thought pondered through their minds day and night.
In this life there are consequences for everything we do, be it good or evil. We all reap the harvest of the seeds we have sown.
The Jewish people had sown disobedience to God and now in this text we see them reaping the promised judgment of those seeds from the hands of Almighty God whom they have sown their seeds against in rebellion.
God's Word is true! If He said it, it will come to pass. The consequences of God are just as real as the blessings and promises of God. They are spoken by the same God and His Words are true and will not return to Him void.
Regardless of what we go through is in this life, there is always a "Word" from the Lord to comfort us that is found in His Bible.
In the midst of captivity, God sends forth a "Word" of comfort and hope to His people Israel by the Prophet Jeremiah and it says "For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
God knew that His people would one day come out of captivity and that He would again bless them, but what they were presently going through had to be done to accomplish God's purpose of drawing them back to a personal relationship with Him.
There is indeed a plan greater than the one we can see with our natural eyes. God's plan is greater than our plans, His thoughts are greater than our thoughts and He alone knows what is best for us.
Regardless of what you may be going through on today, know that God is thinking about you and He has a plan for your future that is full of "goodness".
Remember, God is faithful and true to His Word. What He promises, He is well able to fulfill.
In the words of my Pastor, Rev. Isaac J. Holt, Jr., HIM ABLE!!!!
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for not leaving us in a place of disobedience and rebellion where we have placed our own selves.
Thank God for His "GRACE AND MERCY" on this morning for they are indeed sufficient for us.
God does have a plan for us that is greater than the one we can see.
