John 16:33-“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
Jesus was in the upper room at the last supper with His disciples when He said to them "in this world you will have trouble, but peace can be found in Him in the midst of it."
With Jesus pending, arrest, mock trials, beatings and eventual crucifixion, the disciples faith would be tested and weakened over the events that would soon be taking place with Jesus in the next few days after His last supper with them. But, even being weak or even failing in their faith, they can still find victory in Jesus.
Jesus knew that after His death, He would be resurrected with all power, therefore, in the things they will witness happening to Him, they can still find peace.
Jesus gives His disciples peace and hope in Him before the storm arises. He give us hope too. Hopes of peace in the midst of whatever it is we may have to go through or even going through right now.
When we prepare ourselves prior to trouble and tribulations through God's word and prayer, we can have a peace stronger than any trial or tribulation we will ever go through.
Jesus did say we will have tribulation, but He also says "in me you may have peace. It is up to us to find peace in Him.
Jesus says "be of good cheer for I have overcome the world. That word “overcome” indicates victory. Victory after suffering and victory after death.
The disciples, like you and I may suffer a short setback because of the weakness of our faith at times, but that same faith in Christ, even though weak at times, would ultimately deliver us one day into eternity with God.
As humans, we have a tendency to want to know the if's, why's, and how's in circumstances in life, especially those ones in which we suffer and feel great pain, but God is calling us to trust Him.
Proverbs 3;5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.
God calls us to trust Him even in those times of uncertainty when they present themselves to us for He alone, being God, knows that the plans He has for us are good and as painful as they are, they are indeed working for our good even when they do not look good nor feel good.
Yes, even in the midst of life's most painful test and trials, we can experience the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, the peace that only Christ can give, the peace in knowing that in all that you may suffer or go through in this life, God is still with you.
The world and those in it who do not know Christ may find it hard to find peace, but as a believer in Jesus Christ we can go boldly to His throne of grace and mercy and find the help we need in our times of trouble.
Our time here on earth and our suffering here on earth are both temporary. 2 Corinthians 4:18-while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us.
The world offers temporary peace that will soon vanish away. True peace can only be found in Jesus.
Suffer no more, for help has been made available to you through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Earth is not our home, it is a pass through on our way to our eternal destination.
Apart from Jesus, there is no peace now nor in eternity. The choice to live now and in eternity in turmoil and unrest or in peace now and forever is yours on today.
Jesus offers you "PEACE" in the storm of your life on today. Will you take Him at His Word?
Peace and courage is the call of the day from Jesus to you and I.
