Ephesians 6:1-3- Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with a promise, 3 “so that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.
As school starts back today, this verse of scripture is fitting for you young people, both home and at school.
Many school teachers operate in the role of "parents" during the day while teaching in the schools. Teachers too, are to be respected just like you own parents.
The command today and every day from God to children is "obey your parents" for scripture declares that this is right in the Lord. Remember, obedience is better than sacrifice.
Obey=submit, comply with, to heed, to follow direction and instructions.
Obedience to parents, teachers, elders and those in authority who have rule over you is God's command to you young people on today.
This means that you are expected to respect, listen and obey instructions from your Teachers, Principles, school faculty, staff and other administrative assistance at your school that will be working with you this school season. You are command to respect and adhere to school policies also.
You are to do this for scripture declares that this is right "in the Lord". Not because I said it or your parents said it, but, because God commands it of you.
When parents says "get your homework done, get off that cell phone and study your school work, do it! Not with an ugly or disrespectful attitude, but with a willing attitude in knowing that they are wanting the best possible for you as their child and want to see you succeed in life.
Children, do you want to have a long and fulfilling life? Then listen to the wisdom of your parents. God gave you to them to help you and to guide you, even if you think that sometimes they don't know what they're doing or talking about.
One thing for sure, parents have already tread the path you are now coming along.
Your parents are the ones who represent God's authority in your life. They know what is best for you and what path you should begin to embark on in this life. Not one of rebellion and disrespect, but one of honor and respect for those whose hands you have been entrusted into.
Believe it or not, but your parents and teachers knows what is best for you and they love you enough to want to instill that wisdom into you.
Young people, you cannot learn respect, honor and trustworthiness on your own. You have to be taught. Discipline is not self desired, but of a necessity in any life, adult or child.
God has given a promise of "blessing" to those children who willingly choose to obey their parents and those who have rule over them, for when you do not only are you respecting and honoring your parents and teachers, but you are also respecting and honoring God.
Obedience produces fruit of "wellness and long life" according to scripture.
As you head out to school today, I want to leave you with these words of wisdom.
Proverbs 17:25 A foolish son or daughter is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
Proverbs 12:15-The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man is he who listens to counsel.
Proverbs 1:8-9 -My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the teaching of your mother; 9 for they will be a garland of grace on your head, and chains about your neck.
Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do. And whatever else you do, get good judgment and make good choices. You have it in you and I know you can do it!
“Children, do what your parents and teachers tell you to do. This is only right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ is the first commandment with a promise.
Remember, the blessing is in obedience to those who have rule over you and not in disobedience because it brings about wrath.
Children, you need to understand that no one loves you as much as your parents do, except for the Lord, of course. Their love for you is exceedingly strong.
Enter this school year with a strong mindset of winning in education and understanding.
Young people, let today be the first day of a determined mind and heart to succeed.
With the help of the Lord and you parents, you will receive your reward at the end of the school year with joy if you do.
