Isaiah 55:8-9 For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Think you know all there is to know about God? Think again, for God Himself declares in this text that His thoughts and His ways are not the same as ours for His ways and thoughts are beyond our comprehension.
I am sure in all of our years of growing up we all have heard the old cliché “The Lord works in mysterious ways.”
This text is a reminder to all of us that our thoughts and ways are not always the thoughts and ways of the Lord our God who is “The Almighty God, The Sovereign God”.
God is infinite while we are finite. God is eternal while we are temporary.
God has always done things different than the world does them. One reason God does this is so that we might see His power and His glory, but most of all, that we might believe.
God wants us to know Him and He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him.
A personal relationship with God starts off with the knowledge that God is not on our level, but above us.
God loves us and He has a plan and purpose for our lives that He wants to come to fruition. The key is that we must participate and cooperate with Him for it to happen.
God’s purpose for man is to conform him/her into the likeness of His son, Jesus Christ. A process that begins from the day we are born and does not end until death.
God ways of doing things requires us to change our ways of thinking and doing for God knows what is best for us.
The message of God’s kingdom, the “GOSPEL” is much different than the message of the world.
God’s message is one of “Salvation” through faith in Christ Jesus while the world message is one of “self”.
We need to recognize and attempt to understand through the Word of God that God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours .
There are some things we will never understand about God and His way of thinking and doing because they are beyond our understanding.
I believe that we need to give up our attempt in trying to figure God out and just start believing God and taking Him at His Word.
If and when we learn to put God at the steering wheel of our lives, we will see that He is a better driver than we could ever be. God knows all the routes and all the detours we need to take.
Learning about God and His thoughts and ways is a lifelong process where we would never accomplish knowing everything about Him, but we will know enough to obey and follow where He is leading us.
I will be the first to admit that I do not know it all. I have not yet learned it all. I am daily learning God’s thoughts and His ways as I continue to have faith, trust and dependency on Him alone.
God is daily teaching me as I hear Him often say “not that way Debra, this way Debra, not right now Debra, but later Debra, wait Debra, I got this Debra.”
God is faithful and He can be trusted with our now and our future.
If we continue to trust God and continue to put our faith in Him, He will teach us His ways.
God wants to reveal many secret things to us as His people that others have desired to know, but it requires having faith and trust in Him, recognizing that He alone is God, accepting the fact that He alone knows what is best for you and I and He alone can reveal the hidden secrets of His Word to us.
Matthew 13:10-11-The disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”11 He answered them, “It is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
To drive home His point that His thoughts and ways are higher than man, God uses heaven and earth as His example to show the difference. Heaven is above and the earth is below. 2 different places and 2 different ways of operation.
Think about this for a minute. You and I have thoughts every day. And to us, our way of thinking is perfectly clear and reasonable.
Our thoughts make sense to us. In fact, when other people don't agree with our way of thinking, we think something is wrong with them not us, don't we? LOL!
Think about how God feels when He, the God of all creation, the God of all knowledge, tries to direct our path and we choose to disobey and rebel against Him just so that we can take the path we want to take because we have been lead to believe that God does not know what is best for us because we alone know that.
Remember when the Jews left Egypt to go to the promise land, God did not allow them the quickest and easiest route. No, God took them the long way around.
Exodus 13:17-18 Now when Pharaoh had let the people go, God did not lead them through the way of the land of the Philistines, although it was nearby. For God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt.” 18 Therefore, God led the people around, through the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea, and the children of Israel went up prepared for war out of the land of Egypt.
No, God thoughts and His ways makes no sense to us, but that is where our trust and faith comes into play.
There was a work that needed to be done on the inside of the Jews and there is a work that God is trying to do in us too.
The Jews needed to know without a doubt that it was the Lord God who brought them out of Egypt, not Moses. It was the hands of the Lord.
The same with us! It is the Lord God who has created us and not we ourselves.
We are not our own! We belong to God! Psalm100:3 Know that the LORD, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.
God thoughts are not our thoughts for His thoughts are pure, righteous, Holy, perfect and eternal. God knows things we do not know, He sees things we cannot see, He understand things that we seem not to be able to comprehend.
Everything about us is limited and short lived.
Imagine what our lives would be like if we allowed God to work His thoughts and His ways in and through us.
Oh, what a sight that would be for the unbelievers to see! A jealousy that would force them to want to know our God.
People of God, because God knows best and makes no mistake, we can trust Him with everything that is going on in our lives.
No, we may not understand all the struggles, problems, sorrows, grief, pain, suffering, test and trials that comes our way on a daily basis, but God understands and He alone knows why He allows them to come.
The good knew on today is that God’s Word declares that regardless of what we suffer, God is with us and that at the end of our testing period, God will indeed work all things together for our good.
I did not say they would feel good, but that God would work them for our good.
Labor pains are not soft and easy pains, THEY HURT! But, what is birth from that pain is what brings the joy afterwards.
God is wanting to make us into a “vessel” that He can use in the earth and unfortunately that process does not come without pain and suffering.
Remember, God is for us!
Because God’s thoughts and ways are higher than ours, we have an assurance on today that we shall come forth as pure gold.
Stay in the race people of God!
There is one who’s ways and thoughts are higher than yours and mine and He is cheering us on to the finish line.
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you for leading and guiding you into all truth and righteousness.
