Philippians 3:13-Brothers, I do not count myself to have attained, but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
One of the hardest things in life to do is letting go of what is familiar and comfortable even if it is those things that have caused us much grief, hurt and pain.
But, letting go of the past and picking up the future is what we are being called to do this new year.
Today is the day of new beginnings. A day to drop 2016 and start anew by picking up 2017 and moving full speed ahead in a new direction with Christ Jesus.
Your past cannot be changed, corrected or relived. It is what it is, the "PAST."
The good news about our past is it can be "FORGIVEN" so that we can move on with the work that Christ has assigned to our hands in His Kingdom on earth.
In out text, the Apostle Paul declares that through the many experiences he has had, good, bad and indifferent, he had learned from them and is now putting into practice, the habit of forgetting what is behind and reaching to what is before him.
What about those things of your past that you now realize were of no importance? Will you continue to live in them or leave them behind? You do know that you have a choice right?
Have you ever heard the old saying "eat the meat and spit out the bones"? Well, this is what Paul is saying and what we need to do. Learn from the past, but keep moving.
Things will turn around for you if you will trust God by faith to do what He alone is able to do in and through us starting today. Yes, we can have a new beginning with God.
Focusing on the past won't help you move forward into your future, for looking back keeps you stuck in could have, should have and would haves of the past.
The Apostle Paul describes himself in his past life as the "CHIEF OF SINNERS" and if God can forgive him of his past, surely He can forgive you and I.
Paul knew that dwelling on past wrong doings, hurts, pain, loss, gains, sufferings, disappointments, rejections, etc was of no benefit to him, therefore, he purposed in his mind and heart that he was full speed ahead with what was before him in and through Christ Jesus.
Paul realized that his past was forgiven and that there was no more need to dwell on what he did in the past.
Paul is saying that he is not full speed ahead with the thought that he has already arrived to where he needs to be on this christian journey with the Lord, nor that he thought he had made it on his own.
An attitude of forgetting the the past and looking to the future with Christ should have already attached itself to you today.
People of God, God has forgiven you of all your sins if you have confessed them to Him in repentance. He has completely forgiven you and has declared in His written Word in the Bible that our sins are forgiven and to be remembered NO MORE!
God forgets the past once we receive His by faith as our Lord and Savior, for He said in Hebrews 10:17- your sins and lawless deeds, "I will remember no more."
Because of the blood of Christ, do not allow your past to rob you any longer.
My prayer for everyone of us on today is that we ALL would "drop the past and pick up the glorious future" that God has prepared for us now and in eternity with Him.
God bless you all and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
