Colossians 3:12 God loves you and has chosen you as his own special people. So be gentle, kind, humble, meek, and patient.
What have you chosen to clothe yourself with? Is Christ the wardrobe you are wearing as a believe?
We are reminded in scripture that if any man be in Christ Jesus, he or she is a new creation; old things have passed away and all things have become new.
The call to confessing believers is to put off the old man and put on Christ which is revealed or exposed through our operation in the fruit of the spirit as God's people who are being lead by His Holy Spirit.
The problem with many christians today is you can not tell the difference between them and the non christians. There is no fruit bearing in many of their lives because they are trying to dip in the world and dab here and there with Christ. It won't work! God wants all of us. He wants to be the center of our lives with evidence of His presence with us!
Revelation 3:16 - So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I WILL spit you out of my mouth.
We are reminded in this text that as the people of God whom He has chosen to be called His own, we are to be dressed in gentleness, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. These characteristics are part of what is known as the fruit of the spirit.
Those of us who claim to belong to Christ MUST be carriers of the fruit of the spirit. We MUST clothe ourselves in them daily.
Let's listen to what the Apostle Paul said concerning our character and behavior in the verses prior to in this same text. VS# 1-11You have been raised to life with Christ. Now set your heart on what is in heaven, where Christ rules at God’s right side.[a] 2 Think about what is up there, not about what is here on earth. 3 You died, which means that your life is hidden with Christ, who sits beside God. 4 Christ gives meaning to your[b] life, and when he appears, you will also appear with him in glory.
5 Don’t be controlled by your body. Kill every desire for the wrong kind of sex. Don’t be immoral or indecent or have evil thoughts. Don’t be greedy, which is the same as worshiping idols. 6 God is angry with people who disobey him by doing[c] these things. 7 And that is exactly what you did, when you lived among people who behaved in this way. 8 But now you must stop doing such things. You must quit being angry, hateful, and evil. You must no longer say insulting or cruel things about others. 9 And stop lying to each other. You have given up your old way of life with its habits.
10 Each of you is now a new person. You are becoming more and more like your Creator, and you will understand him better. 11 It doesn’t matter if you are a Greek or a Jew, or if you are circumcised or not. You may even be a barbarian or a Scythian,[d] and you may be a slave or a free person. Yet Christ is all that matters, and He lives in all of us.
As people of God, we must clothed ourselves with the nature and character of the new Spirit of Christ that came to dwell within us when we got saved.
As God's people, who have been born again, our proper response to Christ is to live as He would have us to live and not as our old self desires.
Because Christ lives is in us, we should be bearing fruit that resembles Him and not who we once were before He changed us.
God is expecting to see fruit in our lives because we claim to have died to the flesh and all it's selfish desires and cravings.
What or whom have you chosen to clothes yourselves with on today? Flesh or Fruit of the Holy Spirit?
Let us all daily examine ourselves from this day forward to make sure that when the day of inspection which is guaranteed to comes, we will be found to have been bearing fruit of the Spirit.
What have you chosen to clothe yourself with? HUMMM! Ponder this question.
