Matthew 2:19-23 But when Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 20 saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead.”
21 And he rose, took the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus reigned in Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Nevertheless, being warned by God in a dream, he withdrew to the region of Galilee. 23 And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, “He shall be called a Nazarene.”
Here we see again in this text, God's divine providence and His divine protection of HIs people.
Having been on the run from evil King Herod and in his failed attempt to kill Jesus, God now divinely instructs Joseph in a dream to leave Egypt and take the family back home to Israel.
Joseph obeyed the voice of God that was spoken to him through the angel of the Lord. Joseph arose and took the child and Mary back to the land of Israel as instructed by the angel of the Lord.
Having arrived in Israel and having heard that Herod's son was now king, Joseph became afraid and once again having been warned in a dream to leave Israel and head to the region of Galilee, Joseph along with Mary and Jesus left Egypt and went to Nazareth which was a part of the region of Galilee.
The entire role of Joseph as Jesus's earthly Father, Mary's betrothed husband, Man of God and Protector throughout the process of Jesus's birth, the flight to Egypt and now the return to Israel was one of faith, trust and total dependence on God.
Joseph had to have been in tune with God's Holy Spirit in order to have been able to hear, understand, believe and act on faith in doing what the angel of the Lord commanded of him each time.
Joseph was a man after God's own heart. His actions taken in the process of Mary's pregnancy and Jesus' birth proves it. He took his rightful place as head of the house and in doing so, He was divinely instructed by God on what to do, when to do it and how to do it.
Joseph's choice to obey God through divine intervention of God's angel kept the family safe throughout the entire ordeal that they had to endure. They stuck together as a family and followed God throughout.
Joseph is the "MODEL" of a Godly, Christian man. He sets the example and standard as to the results of putting God first in your family by being obedient to what God commands of you as "Man of the house" every time.
Joseph took the role as "head of the house" by the horn and he and his family was divinely directed and protected by God every step of the way.
Sometimes on the journeys of life, God make take us the long way around and His instructions seems to make no sense, but there is ALWAYS a purpose in why He does it.
In ordering our steps and directing our paths in life, we may not always see God's purpose at the time for what He does and allows to happen in our lives, but, as the saints of old would say, we will see "by and by" and will be glad that we heard and obeyed the leading of God' Holy Spirit throughout our journey too.
Now that Joseph, Mary and Jesus have arrived to God's intended destination for them, Jesus can now live out the life in which He came to earth to life for the next 33 years.
God spoke, the angel obeyed in visiting Joseph and Joseph obeyed following God's divine instructions.
Oh, the results we get when we listen and obey God. They WILL ALWAYS produce the evidence of God's divine protection , divine direction and His divine provision.
Where is God calling you to return back to on today? I believe He is calling you to return back to HIM through a personal relationship with Christ Jesus.
I know God has in the past and is still speaking to you on today. Will you obey? if you do, your life will be saved forever!
It is obedience to the will of God for our lives is where safety, security and provision is made.
It's time to return back Home to God for He is calling you to Him!
